My partner and I stayed at the River Lodge during our Christmas/ summer holiday and it was EXCEPTIONAL. Cleanest room we have ever stayed in. The hosts are fantastic, great vibes all round! The included breakfast was delicious and we had all the amenities we needed. Well worth the price and experience away from a chain hotel. The setting is so green, relaxing and warm. We slept so well as it was so quiet. Highly recommend you stay here if you are planning to hike the Tongariro Alpine Crossing - Dani can organise a direct shuttle to/from the track for you.

City Corporate Motor Inn is a 10-minute walk from Manawaroa Park, Manawatu River, Ongley Park Sports Grounds and the Esplanade Gardens. It is a 15-minute drive from Palmerston North Airport. Massey University is 2 km away. This was the nicest motel anywhere we have ever stayed in. The rooms were a much higher level than you usually find in a motel. They were larger than expected and easily fit a family of four plus significant luggage with room to move. The beds were very comfortable and the double spa bath was AMAZING, we all had a lovely soak in it. The staff were lovely and helped us with washing facilities, and overall it was a very comfortable and pleasant stay, happy to recommend.
