Built in 1852, Rathan House - The Eskbank is based just 7 miles outside of the Scottish capital city of Edinburgh. An enchanting guesthouse, it features a sun terrace, a beautiful garden with croquet lawn and free on-site parking.

Breakfast was excellent and typical scottish in a nice family dining room with old family portraits. The landlord told us the fitting stories about the painted persons. He speaks good German too.

The property was very warmly prepared. Our car was able to be parked inside the compound of the house. The stay was fantastic and the kids like the house vey much. It is highly recommended. Although the breakfast was simple, we enjoyed them. The location is fairly near to the city centre. However, it is the main purpose of our stay in order to avoid the traffic of the city centre.

The breakfast was very good and ordered and served by helpful and friendly staff and competed very well with Waitrose next door cheaper deals due to the massive ques there and serving time. The dining and bar areas were warm and cosy with lots of character and again the staff were excellent in bar, restaurant and hotel. Even the quality of visiting dogs were excellent and great entertainment.

The hotel is welcoming, clean and the rooms updated to modern standards. The staff are friendly, and the Inn (for dinner and breakfast) is really outstanding. The price was competitive, and location is convenient to Edinburgh and East Lothian, with plenty of parking. Rooms are quiet despite proximity to main roads.

This exceeded our expectations (which were of a Premier Inn type of property). This was much better, very friendly, spacious reception, lovely staff. The only thing that was not really good enough were the pillows. Definitely not good enough to have a chopped foam pillow. Apart from that, I would stay again. Breakfast was good and restaurant dog friendly -but not the hotel?

Great location. A short walk from shops and the Country Park and the friends we were visiting. Breakfast was amazing - especially the "surprise" accompanied by fascinating history lessons from Ewan! We loved being greeted by the 2 delightful dogs and the spacious garden. Our room was quiet and very comfortable.

Great well decorated clean rooms. welcoming staff was a big plus! nice restaurant for food & drinks. Dog friendly. went here for 2 nights to begin and end out Scotland Rabbies tour. We could leave our car and excessive luggage there for 4 nights. They even put our luggage up to the room on our return. Felt really welcome and looked after.
