Laos is beautiful place for all of those who are seeking for authentic things. There is paradox of Luang Prabang which with all elegant guest houses and amazing restaurants looks like created for tourists, but it is very close to real life. So, you can stay and dine in very comfortable places mixing Lao and colonial traditions but you can touch real Laos very easily as it is very close to you. Nice people, spectacular nature, interesting culture, amazing food!
Luang Prabang is a quaint town with lots of restaurants and hotels etc to suit every pocket and taste. It is an upmarket back-packer place. We only stayed 2 full days. Although there is a lot of things to see, especially temples, some are a bit run-of-the-mill. The museum has a bit of a run down look and the botanical gardens is over-priced as you need to get a boat to cross the river to see it, total $25 per person (if I’m not mistaken), which put us off. The best experience for us was the Kuangsi waterfall, which for around $8 per person including transport represents far better value. The other activities, such as elephant trekking, cave and village visits etc are probably worth seeing but to be honest, we weren’t on for full day intense sight-seeing but rather leisurely relaxed sight-seeing.
It's a nice city, very quiet lost in the countryside very well preserved. Nice temples, the Royal Palace now National Museum is interesting. The city is clean and safe. Many restaurants very affordable and the food is simple and good everywhere. You also can enjoy massages for a very cheap price. We had a cruise on the Mekong river which was also relaxing and pleasant. We recommend to do it, during 4 hours. 2 or 3 days in Luang Prabang are enough.
Luang Prabang town itself was very pleasant, with some good hotels and restaurants. We took a boat to the botanic garden and had a very good meal there and ate several times at the excellent restaurant at the end of the peninsular. The roof top restaurant in the middle of town near the night market was also good. Unfortunately, we stayed at Mahout Hotel. It could have been the most delightful experience of our tour, with its idyllic location by the river. However, poor management meant badly cleaned rooms (we had to wear sandals in the shower as the floor was so dirty), and a lack of diligence was exhibited by almost all the staff who were often unavailable. The restaurant was only open for a short time each meal time, with a very limited selection, the shuttle bus service was unreliable and wi fi rarely available. Best avoided.
Luang prabang is a really chilled place to stay with heaps to do. The backpacker area is all in one place so it's not overwhelmed by tourism yet like other places in Asia. The backdrop of the mountains is stunning every day send the laos people are the most friendly we've met so far. There's a huge variety of tasty food places from the night market to slightly more pricey but amazing French themed restaurants. Lots of history too! We were sad to have only spent 4 days.. I would definitely recommend utopia in the day for a great view and yummy drinks and Bouang does very pretty and tasty food. The weaving sisters was a real highlight as well and they do weaving workshops from a couple of hours to five days. Incredibly friendly people as well. Very easy to walk around and heaps of places to rent a bike for those looking to go further afield.
I really liked the bike tour we took to the paper village, just outside Luang Prabang. Kuang Si waterfalls were crowded, but we expected it. Feeding elephants at the Elephant Camp was a cool experience too. Luang Prabang is a perfect place to chill out too, relax, have a massage...
I loved the landscape around Luang Prabang - dramatic hills and mountains. Arriving by plane on a clear day was like a fairytale. It was pretty hot while we were here. Kuang Xi falls are stunning. We hired our taxi driver who took us to the hotel on arrival to be our chauffeur on the Saturday. That worked so well for us - better value and less hassle than buying places for 4 of us on organised tours. We swam at the falls as well as at the hotel. Real pleasure. The township is surprisingly clean and the roads are tarmac and in good condition. The people we encountered were generally polite. I had read reviews that indicated staff might not be super friendly, so my expectations were managed. By contrast, Lat, our taxi driver was very friendly and spoke enough English to make a bit of conversation. He was very service-oriented and made a big impact on our enjoyment of our trip. We enjoyed the food at the Joma Bakery and at the Zurich Bread Shop.
A day trip to Kwang Si brilliant waterfall swimming. We arrived back before the rain hit ... muscles we did not know had 🤗... our day .. 1 Day Kayak to Pak Ou Cave, and Whiskey Village — THE best way to see Pak Ou cave. Better than another long-boat or tuk-tuk ride to the cave: Grab a paddle and climb into a kayak for a refreshing way to take in the beauty of the Nam Ou river as paddle our way to visit Pak Ou Cave. We kayak for three hours down a calm but steady flowing stretch of the Nam Ou where can keep cool as immerse senses in the natural beauty of Laos. Stop for lunch on the river bank before making way directly to the Pak Ou Cave where the Mekong and Nam Ou rivers meet. At this beautiful location on the banks of the Nam Ou river stop to just enjoy, than Kayak to the Whiskey Village to explore before driving back to the Luang Prabang.
Just step out & definitely will surprise you in each corner of Luang Prabang. Must visit the Kuang Si Waterfall, temples, join Alms giving ceremony together with the locals, & if you could speak English, you may visit Big Brother Mouse in order to help the locals practise their English.
It's layback, still mainly untouched by development. Still so green. Love the local people .. so friendly and warm. If you are one who likes nature, Luang Prabang is superb for you. Lots of cafes along the main Street .. must local saffron coffee in Cafe de Laos. Eateries a plentiful along the Mekong river. It is rather easy to get around there are tuk tuks, bicycles n motorcycles for rent. Plenty of boats to ferry passengers across the Mekong. My friends and I especially like visiting the villages, wats and also the waterfalls around Luang Prabang. It is indeed a great place to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city!
Hoa is absolutely an amazing host who really takes care of all her guests and helps with their requests. Our stay was perfect and I would definitely come back and recommend this hotel to everyone who wants to spend a great time in Luang Prabang. The room was very big and clean, at a walking distance from the night market or nice restaurants in the area. The breakfast was good and standard for Laos, with an option between eggs and bread or pancakes with jam. Transfers to other cities can also be arranged from the hotel
Luang Prabang
Great location, close to the night market and all things to see in the centre of Luang Prabang. I’ve seen a few reviews complaining about the free breakfast which I just can’t understand! I thought the pancakes were really tasty, and they have a variety of other options to choose from too. The dorm was clean and kept nice and cool, overall it was a relaxing space to escape from the heat. Staff are overall friendly and helpful, especially for things such as organising transport for your next destination.
Very Location very good Welcome of staff very professional , sympathic and efficient. Staff with a very good English speaking Room full of very beautiful wood, very nicely designed and very comfortable. Breakfast and restaurant place very incredible overtopping Mekong river Lovely shadowed gardens along Mekong very under-used. Unfortunately as this is the best place in Luang Prabang to see the junks passing along. I recommend to enjoy this hotel. Very soon.
This hotel is in a wonderful location. Close to everything picturesque in the city. It has a cosy boutique feel and is very clean. The rooms are comfortable, charming and stylish. The staff are friendly and welcoming. Only a few doors down is Big Brother Mouse, who run sessions to help improve English language learning in Laos, this made it very easy to drop in when possible. I will recommend this hotel to anyone I know visiting Luang Prabang.
Small, quite basic, but clean and comfortable hotel near the centre of Luang Prabang. It's easy to walk around town from the hotel and see everything. Steve, the manager, was very helpful and friendly. Gave lots of information about seeing the town and arranged a transfer to the train station for us. He also offered other tours of the surrounding area, but without being pushy about it, which I appreciated. Overall, a very pleasant stay.
A truly excellent stay! We were welcomed to the property by the very friendly staff, who were kind enough to give us recommendations for both food and activities. The room itself was very comfortable with great A/C, the bathroom was also well equipped with a good shower. The hotel was less than a 10 minute walk to the night market, a perfect location! It was great value and would recommend if you’re looking to stay in Luang Prabang
Sada Hotel is a very comfortable, mid-range hotel to stay in Luang Prabang. It is on a road, but there isn't much traffic in Luang Prabang. The rooms are quite spacious and comfortable. There is a good spread at breakfast with both Asian and Western choices. The staff were friendly and helpful. When I stayed, there was construction going on, but that will end at some point. I will be returning here.
Superior Hotel Luang Prabang 💴💴💴 + Totally recommended! The rooms are very big, clean and comfortable. The area is also very quiet. Breakfast is quite large and has several options. The managers are very friendly and are always available if guests need anything. They help you realize all your desires. I needed a motorcycle and they organized it for me. excellent service! 10/10 - --
Luang Prabang
Mister Wan is a knowledgeable ex Laos Tour guide who will make your stay worthwhile! He gave me so many great tips to fine tune my travel routes. Without him my Luang Prabang trip wouldn't have been the same! Rooms are gorgeous but basic - remember you're in Laos. The breakfast table downstairs is a great place to meet like minded travelers. I wholeheartedly recommend this place!
Perfect hotel for Luang Prabang! A haven of peace in the middle of the city! The staff are very attentive and always there to smile at you or suggest things to do. The rooms are comfortable, the pool is outstanding, the spa high-quality, the food excellent, and the location perfect. So don't hesitate to book here! The boat trip on the Mekong with the hotel was amazing, you must do it!
After a visa issued delayed my departure from Laos, I went back to Luang Prabang and stayed here again! The staff are absolutely incredible and the young man and woman who usually work together in reception during the day are some of the nicest people I have EVER met, anywhere. So incredibly sweet and genuinely kind and helpful. They are great.
Perfect stay in Luang Prabang, the host goes beyond expectations to satisfy you and make your stay enjoyable. We ended spending 6 nights to enjoy more of the atmosphere, the hotel being ideally situated. Breakfast noodles are simple but very good, with a big fruit plate, very nice. You also have a choice of eggs and pancakes.
Luang Prabang
The location is perfect to visit Luang Prabang centre, day market happens in the same street as the hotel and night market is 1min away ! Lisa is just the most kind and perfect hostess I even thought she was the owner of this small hotel ! Thank you Lisa, you really made my stay! Breakfast is correct for the amount I paid.
The garden is magnificent. It is so nice to enjoy good food or a drink while looking at it. It's only 5 minutes by tuk tuk to get in town center. It's also possible to get there using bicycle provided by the hotel for free. It's a little heaven where you can relax after a day visiting Luang Prabang.
Luang Prabang
We had an excellent time in Luang Prabang during our stay. Kind and helpful staff. Excellent breakfast with a of options. The bycicle and motorbike rental was smooth and easy. The only negative point is that the hotel is a little bit far from the center, but they provide shuttle bus from the hotel and back.
It was nice that breakfast was included, the workers there seemed nice and to do the best. The bed seemed clean. It wasn’t bad, I just expected a bit more for the price since we payed something like 40€ a night and got better rooms for that amount of money in Laos (maybe Luang Prabang is just expensive idk)
The hotel is new, clean and always smells sweet. Staff are friendly and helpful. Tra My showed us all the must-visit attractions and must-try authentic Laos food that only locals know. She has made our trip more memorable in Luang Prabang. Bonus the breakfasts are nice, nourishing and freshly cooked.
First day we got quite small room with dirty bathroom but it was upgraded next day to normal one. So make sure you ask about good room. Overall nice property and very nice host. Breakfast simple but ok. Hotel in good location in Luang Prabang - many good restaurants and night market not far away.
Luang Prabang

Very friendly and helpful staff that helped us organise our 3 day stay in Luang Prabang. They let us use the bicycles from the hotel and provided good insider tips :) Breakfast spot on the terrace overlooking the Nam Khan River is soo relaxing and peaceful. Could sit there all day.
