Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. United KingdomIt was slightly unclear if there was an extra bedroom, or if it was a studio. We didn't mind either way, but could have been clearer when booking.
Fantastic apartment with everything we needed and crucially in an absolutely great location! Really easy to pick up the keys, and the hosts were incredibly helpful also printing off our pre-paid ski passes so we didn't have to queue the next morning. Loved our stay!

PortugalOverall, the clarity of the listing and the way the host communicates with the guests. Initially I thought it was just some confusion, but later during the our stay I realised they knew about this so now I would just call it false advertisement. In several different moments, we had misunderstandings that lead us to become disappointed with the accommodation: 1 - we thought we reserved an apartment with a living room + bedroom, and ended up with a small studio for 4 people. Be careful when making the research and selecting 2 bedrooms for 4 people. When you do that, the system returns back the studio option. 2 - check in and check-out times are simply wrong. Even though check in time is 3 to 5pm, we received a message from the apartment saying check in starts at 5pm. Same thing happened with check-out. They clearly state check out is until 1pm, but when we asked to check out at that time, we were told they close the office at 1pm and check-out needs to be done earlier. 3 - I seriously doubt the apartment has 39 m2 they claim it has, on the listing. I challenge booking to look into this, as guests get clearly something they didn't pay for. 4 - We were charged for cleaning, even though I cannot find anything in the listing saying we have to fully clean the apartment ourselves. In a more specific way, the following was also very disappointing: 1 - Cleaning. Probably related with the fact that guests need to clean the room for the next guests. We were told guests need to perform a deep cleaning and the cleaning team comes after that, just for a superficial cleaning. Some of the bed sheets were dirty and full of blood/ other stains; 2 - very very hard to manage 4 people in a small studio like that. 3 - wi-fi is utterly unreliable. Works for some devices, and doesn't work for others. A few moments later, the opposite. It's almost like they have a limited of devices that can access to the wifi at the same time. Impossible to count on that as a wifi for work
The apartment is situated at a great location. It's also a renewed apartment with a great set of commodities.
