Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomRooms are a little small but this is because the building is so old so understandable. Our room wasn't cleaned during our stay whicj while not a huge deal we did have to ask for things such as more toilet paper. While breakfast is lovely, it is very egg-based which won't suit everybody.
The family makes this place - they are so friendly and welcoming. The property is in a quiet part of the castle but close enough to all the cafes, restaurants and points of interest, although it is a trek down to the town and back. Rooms are cool and comfortable, with modern, spotless bathrooms. Breakfast is plentiful and tasty, varying daily.

United KingdomOnly one small window in the bathroom made it trick to air / dry the place out!
Cute decor, warm shower, nice breakfast - happy times! Absolute hike up the hill though, but right next to the castle

AlbaniaGreat atmosphere, super cozy space. Everything was clean, the staff waited us with a great hospitality and also the food was delicious and fresh. A beautiful mountain view from the room was like the cherry on top. Everything was perfect, exceeding our expectations for a spontaneous trip as we did with my family.

DenmarkBerat is a must on a road trip in Albania. Luckily we choose to stay in the most beautiful, newly renovated guesthouse inside the castle above the city. Free parking is right inside the castle walls 1 minut from this lokal family, who are so friendly, easy to communicate with and welcoming. Aesthetic room with a view, a good bed, private bathroom. All very clean. We had dinner at arrival on the terrace with a stunning view - and we just loved the homemade food (and Raki). Breakfast was a pleasure as well. Without doubt we will come back if ever in Berat again. All the best - Carsten and Marlene

ArgentinaThe hotel is right in the middle of the castle, which makes it enchanting (it's a 20-minute walk uphill from the city center, so if you aren't in good shape you should go back to the hotel by car). The people who run the hotel are extremely nice, friendly, and helpful. They're truly one of the kindest people I've met!

United StatesThe Bujtina Bega guesthouse was one of our favorite stays in Albania! The building is a perfect combination of new and old, with lovely hosts, delicious breakfasts on a terrace with stunning views of the river valley, and a comfortable stone-walled rooms with modern amenities (and views!!!). We loved being right in Berat castle, tucked away but so close to everything - absolutely magical!

DenmarkGoogle Maps wasn't very good at telling us where to go for parking, so we were confused about where to park. But besides that, we got exactly what we were expecting.
A lovely little place inside the Berat castle. Super quiet and relaxing. The host was very kind and took good care of us. We enjoyed being away from the noise of the city, especially because it's only a 10-15 minute walk to get there.

CroatiaOur only regret is not staying longer, it was that amazing.
This was one of the best (if not THE best) accommodation we have booked so far. The location is superb, in the old fortress, leading to it are magical, narrow, stone streets, the whole experience feels as if you were transported in a different time. The guest house is small and perfect, it feels so cozy and comfortable and the hosts are truly wonderful and kind, you will feel the most welcomed. The room was amazing, it had a stone wall and decorations to fit with the whole atmosphere, the view from the windows was incredible too. The room has everything you need and is actually a combination of wonderful traditional decor with modern technology (tv, ac etc.). The bathroom was also new and perfectly clean, as was everything else. In the morning we were served breakfast on a beautiful small terrace with a view. Breakfast was also a nice surprise, we would've been happy even with some juice and fruit, but it was an incredible homemade breakfast that kept us full until the lunch. Finally, the host was incredible, welcoming, helpful and genuine, I highly recommend this accommodation and can't wait to visit Berat again, we'll definitely be booking the same place.

AustraliaNothing to dislike. Only thing we would have liked is a few more comfy chairs to relax on the terrace with a book.
Small and family-owned in a unique location within the castle walls. Quiet and away from the bustle and heat of the town centre.
