How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Maybe the bed could be more comfortable.
The property was very beautiful. Nice style of bed and especially bathroom. I felt more like in 5stars hotel. In the evening we've heard Mosque very magical moment. The host was very friendly and sweet lady. I will recommend this place for everyone

The owners are super friendly and welcoming. They helped me with all my questions and arranged my transfer to Theth and back from Valbona. The hostel is clean, modern and new. Rooms are big and spacious. It's located in a quiet neighbourhood with shops and restaurants nearby and the center is only 8min walk away.

We absolutely loved our stay at north Star Hostel. We felt like home, the family who owns the hostel is very caring and supported us in any questions and wishes we had. We were planning to stay only one night and extended the stay for 3 nights. We will definitely come again. Thank you again!!!

I stayed 4 nights there in total, was quiet in off-peak season. The hosts were very nice, friendly. There are many shops, bakery’s, supermarkets nearby. Bus station is also not far. Very new hostel, spacious room

This place immediately made me feel so at home and at ease on my first night in Albania. They helped me make my travel plans, book my transit, find local food, and have an incredible experience of the region!

First time in Albania ever, first few nights in the country and I was both lucky and blessed to stay at the North Star Hostel. It’s brand new, very clean, beds are very comfy and the owners are amazing. Zana and Haris both speak perfect English and they will really make you feel welcome and appreciated. As a solo female vacationer this was perfect and I can’t recommend enough.

Amazing hostel! i stayed at the apartment for 7guests and its was Comfortable beds, very clean rooms, nice location, and the owner Miss Zana and her son Harris are so nice and helpful people! i really recommend the place 😊 the Best in Shkodër!

The property is brand new, in my opinion it is more than worth the price, in the property you’ll meet the owner and her son, both of them are super nice, talkative, the beds are super comfortable, if you really need to rest it is a great place for it, you even have inside parking onsite

I enjoyed the cleanliness as well as the very welcoming hosts who answered any question I had and did their best for me to feel like at home. I definitely enjoyed the talks and discussions and the chilling atmosphere I have experienced. From all the hostels I spent my time in Albania I consider this one as one of the best. Definitely worth the money.

showers get a little cold because it's a huge bathroom also there is no kitchen, i don't get why hostels don't have a kitchen, but yeah... takes away a bit of the experience and less posibilities to meet people/share food/share culture...

We did not have the impression, that the bathroom is cleaned on a regulary basis. The water did not drain away in the shower because of a lot of hair and everything was full of limescale. And this already after five months of opening.
The family is really friendly and supportive. They were always there to help and had some good ideas for local food.

The loveliest family run business, very comfortable, new and clean couldn’t have asked for a nicer stay. Nicest family and couldn’t do more to help or make you feel at home.
