Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesNo laundry, no shop and no vending or anything. I starved. Many of us are hikers and are on foot. This is a terrible hostel!
I never received a notice of which room I was in so had to guess. A group showed up for the same room, so that was awkward. No laundry facilities, and the place is filthy.

AustraliaThe rooms were very noisy, you could hear people the room next door. Also the bathroom door had a lock that couldn’t be unlocked without a knife. My partner got locked inside and I had to slide a knife under the door
Location was great

United KingdomJust a warning that there is no one really at this hostel it seems (at reception I mean). I did arrive quite late in the evening, but there were two other guests there who arrived a lot earlier and said there had been no one there; I also left at 8am (which isn’t super early) and there was still no one there. It doesn’t matter too much because you are emailed a code to get into the building…but it does feel quite ghostly, which is just a warning I’d have for solo travellers (especially as there were very few guests). There’s also no obvious number to call if you needed any questions. A strange place, but for the price you pay, it’s fair.
The hostel is actually a nice building and is fairly clean; there’s a big kitchen and lounge as you enter with a table, and a deck outside, and these are nice places to relax. The dormitory I stayed in was very clean and comfy. You get what you pay for.

AustraliaClearer information when booking
We booked way more rooms than necessary as we were a group of 9 and it wasn’t clear that one of them was actually an apartment that fit at least 6 people, one of our rooms was left entirely unused

AustraliaWe couldn’t open the window of our room, because it didn’t have a mosquito net and it was very hot and humid (it was full of insects outside) Also the were only 2 plugs to charge our phones and we were 3 in a room. There was a big family staying at the hostel so they made a lot of noise. it only have 2 or 3 showers and was all wet around the bathroom
The location is the best of the hostel. Very nice area and too close from 12th Apostles It was clean

AustraliaThe building is in dire shape and it could fall down at any minute. Cracks in the wall, the floor is on a slant so that you feel like you're walking down hill moving from room to room. Furniture lifted up to level them out.. I also didn't like that we were charged for a unit and then another room which we didn't need and didn't use. No one around to talk to about this either. SO bad.
The bed was comfortable and the sheets were clean. The unit was big enough for our family of 5.

AustraliaThe electricals need upgrading please. ie, the fact there is only one powerpoint in the kitchen, and a too-sensitive powerboard, meant that we could only use one item at a time...so if we wanted to use the induction cooktop, or the microwave or kettle or toaster, we had to unplug the other items and plug the one we wanted into the extension cord. This was a little frustrating, although also created some quirkiness. Also, the kitchen plug leaked sometimes but not other times.
I liked that there were shared facilities - kitchen, lounge, bathroom, decking - plus we could have our own family room for sleeping. I liked seeing the wallabies in the backyard and the relaxed vibe of the place. We met really interesting people. I liked the outdoor eating and cooking areas. The caretaker was really responsive to our call with our last-minute booking; very appreciated.

NetherlandsThe place of the hostel is very (but very VERY) remote. Nothing around us. No supermarket or place to get food. We already drove miles on the GOR so we had to go back a bit to get food. Kitchen wasn’t the cleanest. Showers so low, I had a hard time showering. Also, love the free shampoos etc but please label it so we know which one is which haha
So so quiet. We literally though we were the only ones in the hostel. Kangaroos around the hostel/garden!!

United KingdomThe facilities need a bit of upkeep, showers and kitchen area a bit grotty and not great space for cooking a meal.
Location was great- just down the road from the 12 apostles which made it super easy to pop down to see them at sunset. Bed was comfy. Didn’t really see any staff for check in but staff we did see were friendly.

AustraliaNo one there - not staff or guests - and only after wandering around inside for awhile did I find a hand written note on the common room table. This should be on the front door. So I was able to call the manager and find out which room to stay in. It turned out that had a used bed in it so he was able to direct me while I was on the phone to another room. Comfortable enough. There was a heater in the room and I did get it to work although this took quite some time and there were no instructions. The two minute buttons that controlled it are underneath and there are no arrows showing where they are. So this was frustrating.
Well, not a whole lot really but neither did I dislike it. Frankly, it was weird staying at a place with no other people, not even a staff person to meet me and book me in. So something to talk about when I got home.
