Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

FranceMinor: Paying for parking ($15)
I had originally booked our stay in Canberra at the Deco Hotel, but because they couldn't guarantee a room with a balcony I switched to the Mercure. And what a good decision that turned out to be! It was one of the first hotels to be built in Canberra. There are paintings in the hotel showing how isolated its early existence was. The rooms are on two floors surrounding a central courtyard-cum-garden. Our room was comfortable and well equipped. Breakfast was an extensive buffet with a short-order chef on hand for individual requests. We used the car park for one night ($15), but found that the fun area of Canberra (e.g., Lonsdale St) was a short walk away. I would definitely book again here if we return to Canberra!

AustraliaWe stayed in a Standard Queen Room for two nights. The room was nice, but you couldn't take a shower without flooding the entire bathroom. The showers definitely need some kind of barrier to stop water leaking out into the whole bathroom floor.
The secure parking was good, and the location of the hotel suited our needs well. Only about a 15-minute walk to the city centre.

AustraliaOur room was very small. There was no where to put toiletries in the bathroom. The rooms should have been described as a small queen, rather than standard. We would have booked the standard king if we had known they were a normal size for a hotel room, which was twice the size of the room we had.
The Ainslie Pub was part of the complex and was a great place to have a drink and a quick pub meal.

AustraliaCheck in area. Although there were two girls on reception it is divided into a gold class type check in. As I was the only other person there I thought it was rude not to serve me and make me wait. I don't like class discrimination I felt very belittled and unwelcomed.

CanadaAgain, the location was a bit far from the city centre. Also, since this is a heritage hotel, it isn’t accessible. It was a bit challenging for us to bring our large suitcases to our room. Even to enter the hotel, there is a flight of about 8-10 stairs.
We enjoyed our stay at the Mercure. We liked the fact that the hotel was a heritage building. We loved the on-site pub. It was very good value. The hotel was about a 20-minute walk from the city centre. Overall, we would have enjoyed the location and Canberra more if we had rented a car. The tourists sites are very spread out. It would also have been nice to visit some places outside of the city.

AustraliaThere are no lifts. Reception staff took my bag upstairs for me, but I carried it down on departure. Overall, well overdue for a make over. Impressions were drab and outdated.
Staff were very pleasant and helpful. Room was very clean, quiet, and serviced during my stay which was nice. Exceptional water pressure with the shower. Seemed to be well insulated - could not hear guests in neighbouring rooms. Easy walking distance to the Canberra Centre and a pleasant walk.

AustraliaWe couldn't manage to log in to the wi-fi despite trying for near half an hour before giving up. The coffee with the breakfast wasn't great - but it was ok.
We travelled to visit the war memorial so the location was great. We walked to the city centre and it took about 10 - 15 minutes. We paid for the breakfast and it was tasty and plentiful.

AustraliaThe pillows were too thin. We had to carry our cases up stairs - I think there may have been a lift - I saw one sign but I didn't find it. The tea and coffee making area was a bit squishy - it was one side of the wardrobe with a sliding door that kinda got in the way a bit.
The hotel had a lot of history and lovely features. The location was excellent for Canberra City Centre. The room was a good size and very clean. The bathroom quite big.
