How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Shower did not have any consistency in temperature - scalding hot or very cold. 'Coffee and tea provided' - a few packets of instant, no milk, no real facilities to make drinks/food.
Clean, bed linen comfortable and beds generally comfortable, the layout was as described. Electric blankets were good.

Bed was a little creaky. WiFi was practically unusable on the night of our stay which was irritating.
Nice room, spacious bathroom with nice shower. Good sized bed. Nice balcony with view of the ocean. Not too far from town. Quiet road with parking available.

Fire alarm was set off by another visitor who just left. We had to wake up and leave too. Staff had their phone turned off.

It would have been nice to have a bath mat and hand towel in the bathroom, and maybe instructions about where to empty rubbish when the bins in the room were full.

No one at reception. No one answered our call when we checked in. We could only leave a message. It would be a help if we are informed of the check in arrangement beforehand if the reception is unmanned.

The curtains were too small for the windows, so there was a lot of light coming in waking us too early. The air conditioning is central for the whole house and it took a while to find out how to turn it on.
The house is very close to the beach and quiet. It is also relatively close to the Apollo city center. There is plenty of space in the bathroom and the bedroom is fair.

The price seemed high for a shared room without a kitchenette. The shower was not up to a functioning standard for accomodation. Heat was inconsistent. No pressure. Went from hot to cold without warning making it unsafe for young children. It felt as though the water temperature was affected by shower use in other rooms. Based on the very poor shower alone I would not stay again unless this was issue rectified. Bathroom was a little smelly. Seems like it needs a deep clean. It was inconvenient to use bathroom sink for washing dishes and filling the kettle and seemed unhygienic to be doing that right next to a smelly toilet. Also a heads up about needing to ring or arrival as there is no one physically manning reception, would be helpful to be able to organise and plan for checking in. If for someone reason a guest didn’t have phone battery or reception they wouldn’t be able to access to room.
Availability at short notice. Ability to stay for short period - 1 night. Ease of finding the place. Handy assistance over the phone. The host was extremely helpful and had a very nice phone manner. Close to main shops and beach. Comfortable beds.

Some broken things such as the chair, the back of bed was very loose, the sliding door did not open and could not close the curtain as it was separated from the slider.

As we stayed in a peak time, the room was extremely expensive for what we got, however if we were travelling at a cheaper time, the room was quite ok. The property and the room are ageing, really needs updating, quite musty smelling, the outside furniture really need a good clean, as does the bathroom and the curtains, microwave needs clean or perhaps a new one, the rusty airconditioner worked but was very, very loud.
The reception wasn't open, but staff were accessible by phone and, I must say were very accommodating and prompt to attend to our needs. Location was great.
