Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaI arrived one day after I supposed had to arrive and they took out my key card from my lock box (previously according). I was without my key for days, cos wasn’t possible to find anybody from hostel staff working. They neither attended my calls. It was my third time at Bayside House and was disappointed. In another hand, I found bathrooms very dirty
French girl staff is always very friendly

AustraliaThe mattres was extremely thin, and the bunk bed didn't have a ladder, so it was not easy to get to the top bunk. It is very noisy since the street is busy with cars at all times and people are partying at night in the hostel. Also, hot water can run out.
On the other hand, there are a lot of showers and toilets. Nice and comfortable common spaces. A lot of places to sit.

United KingdomThe second room I was moved to had no A/C, which was brutal at some points. Most of the guests are working holiday travellers who are living out of the hostel, meaning that the rooms were often messy and chaotic with clothing and items spread all over the rooms. Bathrooms were always either flooded or dirty, however this was more the guests' fault that the hostel's as there was a cleaner every single day. The kitchen was well stocked in many ways except for a lack of bowls which were almost always in short supply. The people working there feel very much like one of the guests in their interactions with the people staying, which although a nice vibe, did sometimes lead to some new guests being greeted with an empty desk on arrival and having to contact a number to check in. Personally, I found Ellie and Olly very helpful whenever I had a question or needed assistance, but sometimes I had to find them first. The location is tough to overlook. Its situated next to a highway, so eye mask and earplugs are a must. Also, since most folks are in their early 20s, if you value your sleep, maybe get a smaller room as people would come back to my room at all hours of the morning or make noise in the corridor.
Bayside house is very much made by the people that stay there. There is undeniably a very fun, collaborative vibe that purveys throughout the house, brought on by the sheer melting pot of personalities. With the exception of cooked food, you can leave your stuff comfortably in your room or lying around and rest assured that nobody is going to try and take it, which makes the place feel more homely and relaxing despite the chaos of living with backpackers. Kitchen facilities were pretty good, with numerous fridges, freezer space, and cupboards. WiFi was fast and there were a good number of communal areas to sit and use it in. Sheets were clean and laundered regularly.

AustraliaKitchen was not well equipped and the place could have been cleaner.
Quiet overnight generally given it was on a busy road with a construction site next door. Having the option of a women's dorm was essential for me. It was a good location for public transport. The management was not ageist!

AustraliaThe bathrooms especially the toilets were dirty. Manly because they were mixed genders and the guys were not able to sit on it an leave the toilet clean. Some guys also used the one! toilet for women and left it dirty! Some people didn't washed their dishes so the kitchen was not very clean and the staff never tried to find the people.
The hostel has good kitchen equipment and a oven. Because it wasn't busy i was in my own in a dorm room.

AustraliaCertain guests violent aggressive behaviour and bad hygiene in rooms... The foam mattresses , you can actually feel the metal base railings through the foam mattresses....NEED BETTER PROPER THICK MATTRESSES.......
The location of the place and also the bright colours of the Art work hanging on walls throughout the hostel. Not your typical backpacker layout, it has a homely feel to it like a house, the whole vibe and atmosphere of the place was great. The washing facilities were the best in my books compared with any other hostel i have stayed at in Melbourne so far....

IrelandReception very poor..... Not to be seen.. on many occasions. Cleanliness.not great. But this part the fault of those using the hostel . And not enough staff..... As i was going away reception was manned. And A lady was changing the bins and cleaning .
No breakfast to be seen.!.... But nice cappachino from the coffee machine. Relaxing on the couch when it was quieter on the monday. Being able to come in at 3am ( but this was thanks to a fellow hosteller. Who showed me how to scan myself in) was not shown by staff.
