How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

It is very spacious house with big backyard. There are so many ways of hearing although it is not very cold. :) It is so thoughtful of the landlord and they provided more than we could imagine.

A beautifully furnished cottage with everything you need for a relaxing stay. The owners had thought of everything including provisions for breakfast. Also included was a bottle of wine & some chocolate- a lovely touch

Gorgeous property with everything you need! Very easy check in and we’re greeted with supplies for breakfast, coffee and tea and even included some cereals for our kids. The heating was great and such a cosy comfortable stay during the cold. GREAT LOCATION!

The only thing we felt could be improved was a deeper clean of the property. There was quite a lot of dust along the bottom of the headboards in the bedrooms, and a toy or two lost down the back of the bed. For those who like complete peace & quiet, perhaps something could be done about the grandfather clock chiming through the night. But other than these small things, we had a great stay and would definitely return. Thank you Tanya and John.
There is a lot to like about Brantwood Cottage - the communication in advance and during our stay from Tanya and John was excellent and very detailed. The cottage itself is a lovely size, with comforts such as heating, electric blankets and a gas fire to make it cosy in the middle of winter. The hosts even leave you breakfast foods, along with snacks and a bottle of wine. We loved the location - very close to the main road, but you couldn't hear the traffic, and near to great hiking trails.

These are just suggestions Bath mats may need to be replaced. We needed to use towels. We came to have a sewing holiday and as it was very poor weather and poor natural light a little lamp in the lounge would have been helpful as some of the down lights were not working. My friend who used the single bed said the mattress was very uncomfortable. It is probably okay for children but not for an adult.
My hosts went over and beyond supplying us with wonderful extras which was fully appreciated. Thank you. The house was extremely clean warm and cosy with wonderful entertainment usage. Especially as the weather was horrid. The lounge was comfy, electric blankets appreciated. Little soaps, hand wash was great. Everything was well stocked. Communication was warm and friendly which I really appreciated.

Great property and wonderful hosts. Tanya and John have a great cottage with all the amenities you could ask for as well as a fully stocked kitchen with complementary breakfast goods. The property itself was very charming, clean and well maintained. Communication from Tanya and John including their instructions were very clear and informative. They were a pleasure to deal with. Location wise, it is a stone's throw to the golf course and couple of minute drive from all the blackheath shops.

Spacious, well-appointed mountains cottage which was warm, cosy and quiet. A short drive or a 20 minute walk to Blackheath village which suited us perfectly. Tanya and John provided more breakfast staples and extras than we expected as well as a lovely bottle of red, Lindt Easter chocolates and Tim Tams which were very welcome surprises! A comfy bed, underfloor heating and a cute gas fire added to our stay and we can’t recommend Brentwood Cottage enough for a great place to stay in the mountains! We’ll be back.

Clock radio in third bedroom made really weird noises in middle of night, possibly some kind of interference, we had to unplug it. House was completely dark at night so you had to feel the walls to make way to bathroom.
Beautiful cottage, breakfast provisions were varied and ample, very quiet, perfect for weekend away.

Everything was accounted for saved us trips to supermarkets and how clean it was wow! Big yard and was extremely tidy! Owners were so nice and instructuctions were easy to follow!
