The location is great. About 5 minutes walk from Stanmore train station. There is also a small IGA supermarket near the station too. The building is a old with signs of wear and tear, but it is clean and has a nice homey feel. The lady on the front desk is chatty and friendly. There are two sections, the upstairs rooms and the downstairs rooms. Both have their own bathrooms. The kitchen and outdoor area is in the downstairs section. It was pretty quiet when I was there. On street parking was easy to find as I arrived in the afternoon on a weekday. It might be a bit more difficult on weekends, but not impossible.

Our room was on the outside of the main building, and was a bit like a shed. It was ok but I imagine it would be very hot in summer. We were concerned about safety as the door looked like it had been bashed in at some point. The kitchen was clean after the staff had been in but in the evening and early morning it was disgusting. Most of the people staying there seem unable to clean up after themselves and there was always dishes, uneaten food around. It was very unpleasant. There was a lot of roaches in the kitchen and the building in general. Bathrooms were cleaner than the kitchen generally, but there was only 4 which wasn't enough for the amount of people staying there. Often I would be waiting 30+ mins to use the toilet. One night two of the toilets were blocked and so disgusting and then there was even more people waiting for the working toilets. Most of the people staying there are long term stayers, mostly men working and living there.

Staff were very friendly and helpful and are doing a good job trying to keep the place clean and running well. The location was great, a short walk to the bars and restaurants of Newtown and a 5 min walk to Stanmore station which takes you direct into the city centre in about 10 mins.

The moquette in the room isn’t the best for hygiene but it’s an old building so I guess it is what it is

The bed was a bit soft. The kitchen sink plug didn't seal so it was harder to wash dishes. It took us a while to find our room as we didn't see it on the room plans inside.

We had good replies to our emails regarding access after hours. We liked being in the outside room. It was nice having the plants on the balcony and the semi-outdoor dining. It was good having the kitchen with tea and coffee.

Owner is incredibly helpful and nice, goes out of her way to make sure everything is right for you. Very convenient location for public transport to airport and walking distance to Newtown main street shops and eateries.

No AC ... During the hot night, it was very hard to fall asleep. I reckon the system of opening doors is quite unusual and theoretically everyone can get in your room. Pillow was very tiny.

I got upgrade for two bed room cause I spent only one night there. That was great.

Price point, fairly clean for a YHA. Kathy was really nice and changed our room when she found out my partner struggled to walk the stairs, which she didn't have to do at all. Place was quite which was a really nice change.

The people/guests we met at the place were not really friendly and had a weird feeling about them..like not saying hi and not really welcoming.We couldn’t really tell,who is living there and who is not.Like one morning we met a couple of drunk people in the kitchen,who we talked a bit and I’m not even sure they lived there,felt like they just turned up.Weird.Also not the cleanest place,but hey,what more do we want for a place with Wi-Fi and good location nowadays. Bathroom was quite nice and the fact it was shared was never really a problem. Kitchen is well equipped,could use more tea towel to dry the dishes and mugs after you washed them up.

Location was really good for us,just a short walk from Stanmore station and about 1.2-1.5km walk to Newtown.

The room was really stuffy with poor airflow even with the fan going full speed. Whatever cleaning products were used made the room have a strong chemical odour which lingered. it would have been nice to have some glasses in the room.

Staff were very friendly and helpful. It’s in a great location. Reasonable price for Sydney. The double room was adequate with towels supplied.

Finding parking close by was terrible. Probably not always like that, but was very difficult to find a spot close to the location.

Coffee available was good. Plenty of spacious areas and amenities. Beautiful large heritage like building. Cathy was very enthusiastic, friendly and informative. I felt she really cares for the comfort of the guests.

Older equipment, light in shared bathroom limited only for 5 minutes even when the card outside said 15 minutes (so it was quite impossible to take shower without staying in dark at the end - and if you want to turn it on again, you have to go outside the bathroom)

I felt a bit uncomfortable with the lack of a back security door at night. Smoke from people smoking in the outdoor area enters the house, so it smells smokey even when there is no-one smoking inside. My room was rather hot and airless even though it wasn't a particularly hot day or night.

Surprisingly quiet, not just a quiet street but the other people staying at the property were quiet. I liked the large kitchen, and the outdoor area was nice. After hours access was good and communication with manager online was good.
