How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Somehow our booking was messed up, we firstly ended up in a studio room instead of the 1 bedroom apartment we booked, the Barkley blamed Booking.com, but I think it was the Barkley..
We love the location, easy to get to and from Melbourne city for shopping and only a short walk to the main strip for dinner..

The lack of a reception at the property meant we had to go to another facility over 1km away to pick up our keys and then go to the property. This was not very convenient when on the way from the airport. It was not clear to me when I booked that this would be required. It is an unusual process. The apartment was also very dark and gloomy with little external light

2 single mattresses pushed together with no good mattress topper over the middle, so bed dipped in. Not well sound-proofed. I could hear the people in the next room chatting and having a shower.

I had booked a car space only when we had to use our car we got back to find no parks left and had to park on street. I rang to complain and they said if we couldn't get our car in that night they would refund the money. 5 phone calls later and still no money has been refunded to my account it has now been 10 days. very poor service. they don't mind taking your money but seem to have trouble refunding it.
Location was great rooms where clean and cleaning staff where very friendly

The accommodation was ~20mins walk from the place I checked in, it was super inconvenient to carry a large luggage with me to walk that far, and I was not informed beforehand and it was definitely a shock when I checked in.
The mini fridge in the room was full of food

Firstly had to go to a different address to pick up keys which you don’t tell anyone on the booking site. The booking site states you can reserve a car parking space which is why I booked the location. Then after booking, I received an email stating you can’t reserve car parking. Toilet doesn’t flush properly. You have to hold both buttons down at once to get toilet to flush. Then you still have to flush it a few times until it flushes. Basin tap in bathroom is loose, nearly coming off basin. The lamps on bedside tables have no where to plug into? so you can’t use. There are no power points by the bed, so you can plug your ph in to charge and have by the bed, as your alarm, or if you need to take a call at night. The cleaners were noisy and talking loud whilst cleaning nearby rooms on the morning whilst we were still in bed trying to sleep. They had no regard for paying guests, so we could sleep, as we had a long way to travel home today.

no access to power points near bedhead including for bedside lamp (it was on the bedside table, not able to be plugged in, so not usable) and no power point for CPAP machine, which needs to be located next to the sleeper it is attached to. I think an extension should be provided for this by the venue.

Booked as property advertised as apartment, toaster didn’t work properly, no sharp knifes or frying pans. Water in shower and taps difficult to get to right temp, blinds let in light from the car park and the fact you have to pay per night for the secure car park
