Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. AustraliaI asked how much for the car park and they didn’t know anything and it cost me $89 dollars for 1 night it is quite expensive
It’s okay however the organisation is quite unusual, I keep asking for everything, eg car park, how to get to the building, it’s not nice when you pay upfront and the locked door into the room is not working, as a client my expectation is to ensure the guest is ready to enjoy their time

United KingdomThe apartment was very dirty with holes in doors, holes in ceiling over bath, dead cockroaches in wardrobe,dirty tissues on floor in wardrobe, broken cupboard doors, dishwasher full of dirty dishes and generally we felt it we could not stay so we organized alternative accommodation, we complain to the representative who was only available via phone who said she would speak to management, we made an official complaint to this faceless management team asking for a refund who initially refused but eventually offered a 50% refund and said they would arrange for Booking.com to forward the refund which so far hasn't happen, we still believe as we only spent 20 mins in the apartment we deserve a full refund but hopes of even getting any form of recompense are fading. Arrived at the accommodation to find that the previous guests had apparently not returned the key, so I was told I would not be able to stay. I then had to spend over an hour trying to find last minute alternative accommodation, which ended up costing me more - not just in money but in time. Very unimpressed.

AustraliaNo hotel staff on arrival, had to make a phone call to find out where we went and how to get into the room. Once we got to room the key was in an unlocked lock box.no toiletries, no pool towels, the fact that the pool was on another building, and the absolute trouble it was to find it then on way back to room you had to walk out of building on the street back to our building. Booking.com might want to update its description and what it offers.
