How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

To improve: - Shared areas: Showers, kitchen, lounge: quite filthy :( & too small for the amount of people in the hostel - Room floors & lockers really need to be cleaned out & kept truck of what is where. There were people using several lockers in one room…
Good: - Beds: super comfy - Bfast: nice, good variety, although no fruits - Wifi: fanstastic - Rooftop: incredible in the summer - Filtered water, tea & coffee available throughout the day - Thursday: Free BBQ - Plugs in all the right places & in beds!! - Staff: some super, super nice & friendly. Evening staff were less kind & helpful. - Curtains in beds are great & cover correctly (although stains should be cleaned)

The kitchen was in the basement. Walls are thin and you can hear Lots of noise at night from within the hostel.
Location was good. Room was adequate. Very basic accommodation

The toilets and showers are located on the ground floor whereas the dorm I was assigned was in the basement, so it was a slight inconvenience to have to go up a flight of stairs just to use the toilet/shower. Also, the dorm was located right by the kitchen, so noise levels could be loud in the middle of the night when people come back from the bars. Lastly, there was a mix-up with payments: I had arrived late and as a result, reception had to hold onto my passport until I came back the next day to settle my remaining balance. When I had come back, I found out that someone at reception charged another girl my remaining balance without properly confirming their name - which I found odd because they were asking to see ID when you checked in - so I was unable to get my passport back until they resolved/sorted out the mix-up; it was just a little bit of an inconvenience to have to keep coming back to check if the issue had been resolved. I am grateful that they were able to resolve the issue, however, I am so confused how the mix-up could've happened. The other girl had a similar last name (one letter different) and could easily be misheard if not properly confirmed, and if the reception had seen her ID to verify, how could they make this mistake?
Location was fairly central.

Rooms and bathrooms not very clean, sewage smell, a bit moldy on the roof.
The bed was the comfiest I've ever slept in hostels, curtains are a plus, no noises from the streets. You can plug your devices when you're in your bed. Breakfast ok. Towel provided.

The staff is friendly, very nice! Is located in a perfect location. I like that each bed has locker, plugs, and curtains. And breakfast with pancakes, bread, any kind of milk and juice free for breakfast.

Unfortunately it was quite dirty as well as the room floor and the bathrooms. It looks a bit old and in my room there was almost no window. Also I asked in advance for a lower bunk bed and even though they promised to assist me with my request, they did not. Very unprofessional

They have no elevator access so you have to carry your luggage to the top levels upstairs using small stairways. In some bathrooms the drains need to be fixed.
Nice public areas in the hostel for guests, rooftop area and lounge. Free breakfast in the morning with cereals, toast, juice and make-your-own pancake. Lockable bathroom cabins which contains sink, toilet and shower in one cabin. They do have multiple on ground level and 1st level. You have curtains on your bed to make your bed your private area with power access.
