How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

If you have to check in at night you have to call the host which can be hard / expensive if you don't have a local SIM. It would be better if the host provided a WhatsApp number so you can call with data.
We could only stay for one night but we found the bedroom and the bathroom clean. The patio looked nice too.

Peter the owner was very friendly and helpful in recommending an excellent diving trip. The room and facilities were excellent - all nice and clean - he upgraded me from a single to a double room which was great. Hope to stay again on my return to Cairns

Peter commenting that I was lucky to get a room due to my age (I'm 56) as most people my age moan about the hostel and that no other hostel would take me at my age. I felt this was unnecessary and untrue. I had already stayed in YHA Cairns and DreamTime Travellers rest. This was a shame as other than this I had a wonderful stay but his comments when I first arrived were belittling and not professional.
This hostel is very clean. The kitchen sparkles and is well stocked with everything you need. Good shower with loads of hot water. Comfy single beds in dorm with no bunk beds. Good lounge area with big TV . Nice clean pool. Opportunity to book trips with Peter on reception.

very clean kitchen, bathroom and common areas, a litter more quiet than other hostels, great surrounding with a shopping centre in minutes walk, coffee next door and close to the center. Parking lots everywhere. Excellent host and owner Peter! He’s super nice and helpful, taking his time to make sure everyone is having a good stay!

We had a very nice stay here. Peter gave us a warm welcome and even upgraded our room which was so kind! The room was clean and spacious and we slept very well. Close to a huge mall with lots of shops and supermarkets. Walkable to everywhere.

The wi-fi didn't quite reach our room (room 13) but it did work great once we were sat down in the communal area.
We had a great stay at travellers paradise - Peter was very helpful and always made sure we were comfortable. The accommodation is extremely clean, good location with a short walk into town, good kitchen and TV. Would definitely stay again.

Everything was just awesome! It is a very well looked after, clean, calm and cozy Hostel right next to the Shopping Center in Cairns and you can reach everything by foot. Also there were only very nice people at the Hostel.

The owner, Peter, was friendly and offered assistance readily. The location was convenient - right next to Cairns Central Shopping Centre. The room was quiet and sufficiently spacious, despite being a hostel.

There were many ants in the first room but they directly gave us another room. If you have any problem they take care!
We had a very nice stay at the Travellers Paradise. The owner Peter is really nice and takes really good care. It's a really sweet and clean place to stay especially for couples as it's quiet there. I loved the pool and the kitchen is extraordinary clean.

Peter is absolutely lovely, very helpful and accommodated checking in late and even let me know I had accidentally left some of my property behind and kept it for me for a few days until I could collect it! Very clean bedrooms, common area and kitchen, all the facilities needed are available

Peter runs a clean, efficient hostel and is very accommodating. Just across from train station and Cairns Central mall with both a Coles and Woolworths grocery stores and many shops and food court. Only a few blocks to central downtown.

Even though it is centrally located on a busy road, once inside you would never know it. Then when you walk through to the backyard there’s the unexpected surprise of a lush garden of mature bushes and trees - a welcome respite from the busy city streets.

The house was quaint and adorable, with very nice facilities. I could tell the owner had put a lot of work into making the place feel cozy. The double bed room was amazing, and I loved the property, inside and out. Everything was very clean and in working order, and the bed was super comfy. It was a fantastic place to rest my head after a long day of travelling and car problems. I would stay there again!
