How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

The light and fan didnt work in my room on arrival but was fixed by the next day.
Nice quiet neighbourhood. Easy access to the sydney and nice coffee shops nearby. The common areas were great and plenty of space.

I didn't have code to get in on arrival, Once I received it per text I still couldn't get in, Waited outside in heat 45". Finally someone came out & let me in. Not sure if it was a maintenance man or cleaner? i wasn't shown how to use the code. disappointed at sign saying non cooking on stove. I couldn't figure out how to use TV, though remote was there. Couldn't get in the next day. Stuck outside for 30", Kept trying code couldn't get all numbers to appear, though it must need a new battery? Finally another tenant taught me I needed to cover the whole screen with my had for numbers to appear & after that I was able to get in. Glad I had earplugs, 2nd night due to loud party in front house. No hot water 1st night for shower.

Communication about my arrival from the host was last minute. There was a dirty towel left behind bathroom door. There was no clean bathmat, only one single towel. The sound between rooms, people coming in an out was sometimes noisy.
Great location. Comfortable bed. Good wifi. Room was lovely.

I’m not sure if it’s clear that this property is a home stay where the owner doesn’t actually live. The address is also wrongly advertised. It is actually at 96A Darghan Street. You get an email with all the details just before you arrive which can be off putting and unsettling although l had no problems in the end gaining access. I did need to make a phone call to Steve though.
Great location. I like walking and could get to the main areas within 25 minutes. Also 10 minutes to the local shopping centre with a Cole’s supermarket. Room 2 was bright, clean and comfortable with a nice view. The kitchen was well equipped and spacious. it was good to have facilities for washing your clothes. I paid extra to have the spare bathroom to myself. I don’t think l would have liked to have had to share the other bathroom which also contains the washing machine and tumble dryer. I think it must get hot and busy in there.

Alert misleading ad and scam owner Very bad experience... The address indicated is not the right one, I contact the customer service who apparently manages several accommodations because they send me the wrong address in short... Be prepared to go round in circles before finding the right place. I booked an apartment that indicated a bedroom with bathroom, kitchen and laundry, but when I arrived I was disillusioned. One room with a separate bathroom. Shared kitchen and laundry. I contacted the owner STEVEN who sarcastically told me that yes, the ad was wrong but that he wouldn't change it and that I had nothing to complain about because I wouldn't get any accommodation for this price in France. Why tell me this knowing that I'm in Australia and that I've simply paid for a service that isn't respected at all? He offered me a $50 refund, which I accepted but which never arrived. After my stay, I posted a comment on booking explaining how disappointed I was with the misleading advert. And that's where the aberration occurs, I contact Steven to find out the status of my refund and he asks me who I am because people call him all day long for the same reason as mine (always with aberrant sarcasm). Then he tells me he won't give any refunds until I remove my negative comment or change it to positive. So he's blackmailing me and I understand that he does this with everyone. Once again I accept his condition and delete my comment but that's not enough, he waits until it's no longer visible on booking and asks me to let him know when it is. He asked for my bank details, which I gave him, and I never heard from him again.
