There was no streaming facility to the TV, something I have come to depend on these days, I rarely watch free to air TV. My room was at the end of the building and was located across from a hotel, the noise of music and patrons easily penetrated the single pane windows.

The location of this hotel is excellent it is in the heart of the city, a short walk to hundreds of eateries, bars, clubs, massage, the coastline. The heritage section of the hotel boasts a large outdoor balcony overlooking the mall which is draped in large fig trees and is a lovely place to spend the afternoon having a drink and reading a book, or jjust watching the people walk by.

We loved the beautiful, historic building where we could sit out on the covered veranda for breakfast and drinks in the evening. The interior design preserves the history of this beautiful building. Every thing is so freah and clean. The breakfast is basic but good value for the price. The location is excellent as there are many afforable eating places and there is a supermarket just across the road.

The people out front begging to get in and want me to give them the code. I would have liked some warning about it. I assumed they where street people but what if it was really someone who forgot the code. Perhaps there could have been some breakfast available very early for those going to the airport early.

I was close to the airport and was to the airport quickly in the morning. It was walkable to go out for supper. I left before breakfast was being served.

The beds are old and were a little uncomfortable they had a mattress protector on that was meant for a double bed, not a king-size bed, that kept bunching up and had to be fixed during the night. And extra pillows and a mattress topper would be handy.

The location is great, you can get around the city if Cairns easily by food, everything you could possibly need is close by, I was a little worried that it would be noisy from the pubs and clubs close by, but there was no noise at all. The room was clean, the air-conditioning worked well, and there was enough room, so it didn't feel cramped. Breakfast was good for the price, the staff were all friendly and helpful. The balcony is a great place to sit and enjoy breakfast or an evening watching the world go by after a big day exploring Cairns.

The downstairs tenants, PJ O'Brien made as much noise as they could at closing time (1am) tipping all the empty bottles into a bin. Everynight the same. Not Hides fault, but it was annoying. The locked frosted window was not good. Some fresh air would have been nice.

The room are large enough for 2 with the view only towards the courtin because are unopenable The cleanings and towel changes are on daily bases but too superficials.

The position is their only quality, the hotel is old and the windows are tiny and you can hear whatever happens around the building so the sleep is not relaxing. The reception is friendly and helpful when they can. They arrange to run with what they have...

The carpets as you walk down to your rooms. They’re a bit tatty and could do with a bit of TLC.

I received a warm welcome and an salty check in which was great. The hotel is not the ritz but it’s comfortable, rooms are very clean and I slept like a baby!
