Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

AustraliaIt could be cleaner, under the couch hasn’t ever been cleaned and there was long black hair everywhere. I didn’t enjoy dragging musical instruments and 2 large luggage bags all the way to look for a locked box that was just random we found. Could have been made a lot easier.
Location was great for what we needed. The facility was comfortable and felt safe. I love it had a pod machine with pods.

AustraliaWhere do I start... We had to collect the keys from a store a whole other suburb away, not an easy feat in city peak-hour traffic. The cleaning of the room was sub-par. There was only one roll of toilet paper for a 5 night stay, not to mention the toilet roll holder kept falling off the wall. One of the bedrooms has no window or air-conditioning making it very uncomfortable at night. Both mattresses were extremely worn, hard on one side, soft on the other, the feeling of springs on rolling over. The apartment was very noisy, both traffic and other tenants. You could only access the carport with a sensor key which was great until we went to check out and were instructed to leave the keys in the apartment.

United KingdomAlmost I did not like everything from the start. First, the key was hidden in keybox far away from the building and there was no clear description of the location. The agent company did not answer the phone and they sent me an inactive link information by email. Booking customer services helped me to find the keybox and provided me with its code otherwise I would go to the hotel. So, be warned that the agent company is not responsive and the keybox is located in crazy location. Also, I could not find the car park bay until next day. The flat itself was not clean when we entered it. So, we were disappointed about the hygiene especially that we have a toddler. I realised that many tenants complained about that the flat is not clean on booking review. The flat does not even have a rubbish bag and I had to buy for our stay. The most crazy thing is that the second day after leaving the flat I received an email from the agent company telling that they found stain on the carpet and they will charge me for it. Of course we did not make any stain and the flat was not clean from the first place. the photos that they sent me for the stain seems to be that the cleaner just put some water and take pictures for it as a stain or some stain already existed from before. It seems that there is a fraud is going on to get some money. All in all, I really regret that I rented that flat and I really do not recommend anyone to rent it, be warned. I advise booking to remove the flat and the agent company from its website as they just just affect the reputation of booking.
