The carpets and walls whilst clean were marked and stained from previous users and repairs which made it feel dated. The bathroom facilities again worked however were dated and the laminate in bathroom vanity was water damaged and peeling, but again didn't affect use just astetics. The spare blankets were very scratchy thankfully didn't need to use them it was an exceptionally warm day and night during the stay. The toaster wasn't clean so wouldn't of used it. The bed felt like one end was on a slant and kept rolling that way and the pillows kept sliding think that was just the material and they felt quick new and fluffy, which isn't nessecarily a bad thing however had to keep adjusting them.

The location was really convenient right in the middle of Melrose. Check in was nice and easy, just paid and no paperwork or waiting around we were able to head straight to the room which had parking. The air conditioner worked it was double blinds so you can adjust to your level of night darkness and daytime privacy. For the most part easy to move around with 2 people in the space. There was a wardrobe to store bags and items so they didn't have to sit on a floor. It had a bar fridge and provided tea and coffee with utensils. No way to wash them with detergent through so might not be ideal for a long stay or bring your own. Checkout was simple as well no fuss around. Quick and easy.

There was no Wifi, the room was quite small. It would have been handy if there had been more crockery, like a bowl for a cereal.

Handy place on the main street. Comfortable and quiet. The owner was friendly and helpful.

Room was old, tired and in need of maintenance and repair - which in fairness the manager acknowledged and wanted to change us to a newly renovated room (which looked good), but unfortunately it was unavailable. Bed was OK but mattress has sagged in the middle.

Location is excellent. Shower was nice and hot. Staff were very friendly, obliging and helpful.

Check-in was a little confusing. Text and booking.com message stating room 3 but this was taken when we arrived. Directed via phone call to room 1 and to "knock" before opening door in case someone was there. Near the roadside which was fine except a few passing trucks overnight. Loud heater/AC unit. Misleading photographs of the beautiful historic hotel building, but this accommodation is actually in a separate building beside it.

Melrose was fantastic. This accommodation was well located in town. Next door to a cafe that we enjoyed a nice breakfast at.

We were sent to the wrong room due to a miscommunication among staff. Because we arrived at night time, it meant we opened the door of someone else’s room while they were inside. A little awkward but we were then told where to actually go afterwards

    Had everything we needed

The room was very dated and appeared neglected. Very cold in the room and heating system too noisy to leave on a night. Bedding not adequate for night time temperatures. First night i had to get sleeping bag and thermal undies from car and still cold. No extra bedding in the room. Was given additional 2 blankets when requested next day.

    Location. Parking.

Unsure about WiFi, however wasn't required personally.

Inexpensive, cosy motel style units in attractive village, nestled between the affiliated hotel (an old school country pub with real fireplace) and Ampol roadside diner. Stayed during especially chilly winter evenings and air-conditioning heater did its job. Rooms on the small side but functional, equipped with ensuite bathroom with separate shower, refrigerator and TV. Good water pressure and responsive fast functioning hot tap. Bedside powerpoint and lighting. Clean comfortable bed. Easy parking access and porch outside. The hosts own/manage the Mt. Remarkable Hotel (a heritage building) and are terrific people who like a chat and are most hospitable. Their beef roasts are worth the ticket as a sit in dinner and they offer a decent range of local brews on tap and wine list. Definitely recommend a stopover here if heading through this part of SA.
