People smoke right at the entry door, which is also next to 10 bed doorm. Airflow brings all those smells inside

Only had fans rather than aircon so it was super hot in the rooms. The bathroom and toilet faculties are really outdated and not very clean. Beds are also a bit old, would still stay again if needed but some modern updates would be nice.

Perfect location! Best around, so close to the beach and easy for buses.

Room a bit dirty and the whole place was kind of dusty and not too clean. The communal kitchen was really busy and narrow, not ideal for many people trying to cook at once. But you get what you pay for and again, for a hostel it was pretty good.

Great location, easy to check in and access facilities. Very cool old building and lots of great info on things to do around Newcastle and surrounds. Pretty clean bathrooms for a hostel.

I was in an room without any aircon and only one small fan so it could get quite hot in the evening but nothing serious

Shame reception is closed between 1-3pm which is prime check in time, even though I had called up just before 1 to ask if room would be ready soon as I was due in early, and she said it would be, but didn’t think to mention I won’t be able to check in. Had to sit around and wait 1.5 hours when I got there.

Amazing location, so close to beaches and ocean baths. Social events on at night time (eg wine and cheese night) was a good way to meet people. Bathrooms were clean and beds comfy. Large kitchen area.

The room was extremely warm as the window only opened partially. There was a fan in the room though so that got a good work out.

I've stayed here previously so knew what to expect. I like that the kitchen remains open 24/7 and the beds are comfy too.

It could have been a bit cleaner, especially the kitchen, but I have to say staff was cleaning it. My bed sheets had some stains, although I believe it was cleaned. Overall, I just stayed at YHA Blue Mountains and that was better, nicer.

Staff was nice and the place had everything needed. Parking was free in front od the building from 5 PM to 9 AM. It is very near a beach and a park.

The room needed a bigger fan or an A/C unit it was really hot

Super close to the water & main town, could see the water from our room & hire scooters/bikes for free! Having a smart tv $ mini fridge in the room was really good too:)

Other travellers didn’t wash up and clean up after themselves in the kitchen. Bathroom was fine though. Nice having a free barbecue and free scooter and surf board hire. We made use of both and really enjoyed staying at the hostel.

The hostel is quite old and would do with some refreshed carpets to get rid of the musty smell that runs through the hallways and rooms. Also the showers could do with an upgrade but they worked nonetheless.

Location (close to the beach and city) and ease of check-in were great, we also managed to find a car park on the block each time we left the hostel.
