Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

United KingdomPile of Dirty sheets on floor I had to ask staff to collect. Bins full and overflowing - I had to ask staff to empty. Room Dirty. No blankets supplied (it was cold). I was given damp sheets. Staff spoke to each other in their own language at reception desk, so couldn’t understand what was going on. Under bed lockers - standing ones are better.
Location, cheap. Bed comfortable. Had lockers. Bins emptied, Dirty Sheets collected and Damp sheets replaced when staff informed.

AustraliaIt’s an old building and the style looks a bit like an old hospital or an old orphan inside .Sometimes you can see appear a small cockroach or 2 but, again , not as described in too exaggerated comments (that’s is due to the humidity and old building but not cause it’s not clean!). Too much water in the floor of the Bathroom (not always but most of the time) as the shower really needs an update. But I’ll recommend the backpacker anyway as it’s good value for where it’s located in Sydney!
I was apprehensive after reading too many comments about the non-cleanest place (but as my partner and I, are in a transit from North QLD to West NSW for 2 weeks (maybe more), btw 2 different work projects, we couldn’t book something too expensive… I decide then, to book first, just 4 days, to see how we will feel … And The first thing I realised when I entered is; that I could see the comments I could read about the non-cleanliness are just exaggerated! The whole place is really clean , it’s smells clean and every day our room is vacuumed, the plastic bag of our rubbish changed, the bathroom/toilets cleaned. It just looks old. We have a private room view of the beach /shared bathroom and it is true that the Sharing Bathroom have a big problem of non-ventilation and humidity (especially on the ceiling ) but the showers , the toilets , the sinks and the floor are Clean! The whole bathroom just needs an update but it’s clean! After these first 4 days we extended our time in the Backpacker for 9 more days!) About the Kitchen it’s true some people don’t respect the cleanliness but not cause of the place as, it’s write in black and white on the wall “if no cleaned after used, $50 fines will be apply!” So, It’s finally at the people living in community in the Backpacker who have to respect!

SingaporeJust very cold! Our double room was essentially a mattress on the floor with a blanket and was very cold in early June because no heaters and thin window. We asked for an extra blanket but didn’t receive one. Kitchen was also very cramped and quite dirty.
The location is incredible for Bondi beach and we loved exploring the area. Can imagine the hostels terrace also really lovely in summer.

AustraliaThis hostel has a lot of long-termers who take over rooms and put their stuff everywhere, and management isn't willing to enforce rules on this. Bathroom facilities are very inadequate. Mattresses are filthy.
The rooftop deck is lovely, with a great view of Bondi Beach.
