How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Oscars has a unique position in Port Fairy right on the river. Adriana made us feel so welcome and the facilities and breakfast were out of this world. We will be back.

We were disappointed that they did not do dinner - this would have been truly lovely. Sadly the restaurants in the town are very poor quality and are just basic, but charge well for it. Salads seem to be excluded as a main meal????
It was a fantastic small hotel of 7 bedrooms and we were made to feel most welcome. We really enjoyed the breakfasts and the complimentary teas, coffees, etc that were laid out during the day. We most certainly hope to return upon our next visit to Australia.

Oscars on the waterfront is an exceptional place to stay. The rooms were comfortable and clean and the property itself was very well appointed. The staff were pleasant and accomodating and Adriana was a great host making our stay very enjoyable

I found Oscar’s by going online and booked our stay without any prior knowledge of how lovely it was.. so very happy to have found such a top location and have already mentioned it to our friends… More advertising perhaps.. although word of mouth is best..!
The breakfast was delicious every morning and Adrianna was so pleasant and helpful with any questions we had.

I could not improve anything, I had nil dislikes, only positives
Host and team were fantastic, incredibly polite, warm, sincere, informative and attentive. Breakfast included was excellent, general ambience was excellent, the hotel had everything one would desire on a trip.

The only thing was that the spa bath didnt work and the fireplace in our room was not working due to fire regulations. However Andriana gave us a discount as a result.
The property is lovely, and we stayed in the annex in a beautiful room with elegant furnishings. The breakfast was excellent, prepared to order by the delightful Andriana, who looked after us very kindly. We could make use of the beautiful sitting rooms in the main house and there was always fruit and snacks available.

Nothing at all.
The actual property was amazing, but Andriana was so friendly, welcoming and has a real attention to detail. We also got to meet Tim, who was also incredibly friendly. Oh and the breakfast muesli was amazing!!!

Nothing we didn't like.
Oscars Waterfront Boutique Hotel is superb with facilities that are clean, comfortable and so welcoming. The care and attention to detail within and around the Hotel and its rooms was well above our expectations. The Hotel's manager Andriana was very friendly and obliging. The breakfasts she prepared were so very tasty and filling.

A smallish bathroom
Beautiful breakfast, prepared with care. Hostess Andreana is a truly lovely and caring young lady with a sensitive soul with great attention to detail. She is well supported by Shane, who would also attend to any request made of him. A fabulous team!!

this is a fabulous place to stay in Port Fairy. Lovely, spacious, beautifully furnished and equipped bedrooms with fabulous bathrooms and comfortably warmed by open fires and air-conditioning. BUT BEST OF ALL --- staff who make you feel welcome and valued.

A small Table to sit at in the Room for a Laptop would be good. There was nothing we didn't like.
We were very surprised with the Facilities. It gave us a sense of joy & we were very comfortable. The location was perfect in a nice setting. Walking distance to everything. The Breakfast was first class & filling.

Couldn’t fault our stay at all.

Hardly a thing to reflect negatively. Parking was outside the property.
Lovely property in superb location. Common rooms were first class; lounge, lobby, reading and breakfast rooms. Outside balcony overlooking active river was very charming and calming. Very friendly staff, great accommodation, bed, shower. Breakfast was lovely and promptly delivered to a wonderful room.
