How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Other people staying in the building slamming door constantly was a bit of a nightmare, it was quite hard to go to sleep one night. I couldn’t work out where it was coming from either so couldn’t ask them to stop. This is nothing to reflect on the staff/property though, everything otherwise was great :)
Staff were really friendly and helpful. Location is great! The bed was really comfy.

- The beds are constructed so weak. Just someone rolled over, all four beds are shaking. - The fridges are always full.

Staff were great. Very close to tram line and Skybus stop straight from airport. Room had good AC and clean bedding.

We were in a private room and it’s expensive for what you get. The room is fine but it is literally just a bed, 1 bedside table and a sink. The room needs a bit of an upgrade, it needs a paint and a clean, the bed is old and creeky, the sheets are old and bobbly, there’s no aircon so the room gets very hot and the tap in the sink leaks constantly. The shared kitchen is very small and all the fridges full. You can get better properties in Melbourne for the same price or cheaper.
Free breakfast is great. Good location, walking distance from shops and central st. Kilda, close to the tram stop.

The taps in the bathroom were very difficult to turn off. The vanity showed signs of water damage along the floor and the sash window didn't close all of the way.
The bed was comfortable, the accommodation was in a great location close to trams to the city and St Kilda, and breakfast of toast and cereal was provided.

There wasn't electricity socket close to the bed.

The reception and cleaning staff are not bad. However, my share mates in the 6-person room were really the worst. I could barely sleep. I also wish they had installed curtains as a precaution.

The waterpressure in the showers was bad and the water did not stay at a certain temperature no matter what. The kitchen is tiny considering its quite a few people staying there and also not super clean
The mix out of pub and hostel, guests get a discount on food and drinks in the pub. Breakfast was good

We checked out of the hostel on two separate occasions - one of us accidentally left behind a watch charger the first time and AirPods the second time. Contacted the hostel as soon as we realised, which was within a few hours, as we knew exactly where we left the items but were told they weren’t found after the room had been cleaned, on two different occasions. One bed in a shared dorm had a spring sticking out from the mattress which was rather uncomfortable.
Staff behind the desk at the check in were very nice, friendly and welcoming. Cheap rooms and easy to extend the stay.

The thin walls, it can be quite noisy especially if other guests are rude (and e.g speak on the phone in the corridor until late at night or early morning, or worst both). Facilities are also quite dated, but adequate.
The location, close to the tram stop, above a pub, and within walking distance from restaurants and supermarkets. Staff is very friendly and wifi is stable.
