I booked this hotel based on a scrutiny of other venues by using Booking dot com. I had to book a hotel because at about 4AM my car hit a roo on the highway near Collector. I was carless and 1500KM from my destination (Brisbane). I was adrift with stress and confusion because my car no longer worked (radiator, rooined... LOL... I can pun now but when I booked this hotel I was bereft of humour). I had hours to wait (I got into town at about 630AM and check-in was not until the pub opened, I think at 11AM). In the end I didn't stay the night. I used the room to organise my stress, organise my thoughts, have a nap, and organise a hire car. This is an old school pub hotel. Shared shower/toilet. It's good, honest, and basic.

There was a terrible odour throughout the entire hotel, the room was nothing like the photos and very dishevelled.

The staff personnel was very friendly and the hotel is in a wonderful location and quite charming.

Great location. Friendly staff and service No internet upstairs in my room. Downstairs internet perfect. Great off street parking

Initial key pick up was a little intimidating, though an employee outside saw I was a little lost and gave me instructions. Then my booking was not there as apparently they had changed booking systems. I was told I was lucky they had one room left I could have - the bar guy could do with a little training in customer relations. Nothing like driving 7 hours to be treated like a nuisance. The lady on the restaurant side of things was an absolute sweet heart though. Some sort of map for people checking in would be helpful. I only found the tea and coffee facilities after re reading an email to confirm there should be some and then blowing up the fire escape maps to work out where it might be. The lack of privacy or facilities in the bathroom nearest me put me off even brushing my teeth. Maybe there are better facilities, but the closest to me was very basic. Again, a map would help. Bedroom curtains are see through. Anyone in the street outside could see in if the light was on.

Bed was comfy. Food was excellent. Heating options worked really well.

Photos they use in advertising don’t quite match what you actually get. The room was old and small, I do understand it’s an old pub and the price is set accordingly.

Very dirty carpet in the room and the floor was very creaky. Bedding smelled and I couldn't wait to leave the next day.

Dinner wasn't available because they had sold out of food in the mid afternoon. There was a good size backroom to relax in and the log fire was comforting.

The bathroom. At least fix the toilet roll holders! Acknowledge that the building is old and that it's a wonderful work in progress. Keep up the great work. Despite the horrible conditions in the bathroom. I will return and recommend to others....in fact I have already recommended.

I was a single female traveller. Great check in. Staff member was polite, efficient and friendly. The meal I selected for dinner was sensational. Marsala chicken with chat potatoes and green beans. The rooms still need renovating but the beds and linen are great. Bathrooms pretty horrible...in fact really horrible....but the rest of the experience is great. Mini kitchenette was well stocked with satisfacty appliances. Kettle and microwave

Some rooms very run down. (Suggest request renovated one).

I liked the old world feel of the hotel and the lead light windows. I had a recently renovated room, which proved to be quiet and comfortable and very reasonable for the cost. Close to shared bathrooms and a free help yourself tea, coffee and small shared fridge room. Bar and dining areas pleasant, and obliging staff.

Shared toilet facilities didn’t provide hand washing soap or hand towels so couldn’t clean hands properly. A wall mounted liquid soap dispenser should be provided as minimum. Shared shower facility didn’t provide lockable doors for either the cubicle or shower space.

Some routine maintenance required, paint flaking from room ceiling, and 1 of the 2 showers on our side was non operational. but that is some of the charm of a pub stay.
