Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Australia- No toilet paper - The people staying there are very loud, they’ll have a loud conversation right outside your door or on the veranda outside your room, constantly opening and closing doors, left building and returned multiple times and turning lights on and off between 9pm-1am. Not sure if they were staying there long term or short stay (but they brought a lot of shopping so I’d say long term).
Very convenient to Sydney Airport, 9 minute drive at 5am if you have an early flight. Big room, lock on room for security and easily accessible. Sheets and bed were good. The girl there gave me a bit of toilet paper when there was none provided, meaning it was her own, so I’m thankful to her. There’s a brewery nearby, Slow Lane Brewery - BEST PIZZA I’VE EVER HAD.

New ZealandThe owner was very unhappy when he found out I booked from booking.com. he said he has requested to have his property removed from the website but it wasn't done. He said customers from booking.com are rude, and it is not worthy of doing business. He did clarify that he wasn't saying I was rude. But his comments made me felt really uncomfortable knowing that I wasn't welcomed.

South Africa- No sign outside - The place is a complete mess - things and rubbish are thrown around, all over - No clear status of this accommodation in the original advertising - Hotel ? Guest house ? Hostel ? Backpackers ? - The fridge is full of old food left by previous tenants - The room inside is stinking with unwashed human body and not clean - The place owner was rude and adviced me to get out if I don't like it - The original advertising was misleading - should has been clearly specified that it is a shared room

AustraliaIt's disgusting and is nothing like it describes on the site. It's definitely not a place I would stay in again as a single female or if you are travelling with children. There are men actually living there. The sheets were filthy, just like the bathroom and kitchen area and the floors hadn't been cleaned or vacuumed in I don't know how long. It is not a hotel or motel or even a guest house. It's someone's house trying to make money off of unsuspecting travellers. If I could give it zero stars I would.I want my money back.

AustraliaExtremely dirty Sheets we’re not changed, room had rubbish. Glass walls , emergency light shining through the walls keeping me up all night. Host did not want to give the room to my key at first. Bathroom was thilfy No toilet paper mould everywhere smelly mop in the bathroom.
Nothing it was terrible the worst place I have EVER been. I’ve been in hostels for AUD 70 per night that were much better !!

AustraliaIt’s basically an office space with beds in it. There was not black out blinds in my room, and it was next to the kitchen. There was bright lights that would shine through into my room. There was also a light outside my room that would stay on all night, making it very hard to fall asleep. The bathroom also had no toilet paper
