How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

the bed was uncomfortable - very soft and you could feel the springs. sheets didn’t appear to be clean. also the basin sink leaks

The rooms are tired but serviceable, however the cleaning left a bit to be desired...cobwebs on the toilet brush holder, someone elses hairs on the pillow slip. Just a few freshen ups when the room is booked would make all the difference!

Bathroom facilities were a little underwhelming and would recommend an update. Mattresses not comfortable

Room was a good size but needs some TLC Disappointed with tourism brochures in the room and glad we had done our own homework prior to arriving. The town was also disappointing - could do with a fresh approach to boost tourism in the area

No Breakfast offered at all. Only 1 small pack of milk, in the fridge. No current attractions, tourism articles or where to get food, in the room.

We arrived early and the manager let us have the room straight away. The room was more than adequate for our needs it was clean, no noise and close to town.

Absolutely terrible. it looked like a prison yard with cyclone fence and abandoned buildings. The room windows did not lock. The owner begrudgingly gave me dowling tidbits to jam the windows shut.
The room was clean. The inside had been recently improved. The room facilities were good.

Comfy beds, all the little things like coffee and bickies were included, good water pressure in the shower. We had a family emergency which meant we couldn't check out at 10am, the staff were so incredibly kind to us. Ever so grateful.

On arrival the room was so heavily scented we had to open everything,it actually stung our eyes,the carpet was sticky, bathroom and toilet areas were disgusting,the floor tiles in the shower had all lifted and they had filthy plastic mats over the floor,the wall tiles were black at the bottom,it’s a dog friendly motel so we had barking at night from dogs in other rooms,and as the scent left the room all we could smell was animal urine

Tiles falling off shower walls. Black rubber mats on shower floor hiding broken tiles. Curtains dirty. Carpet needed cleaning. Indigenous youths riding around units at 3am.

It's too small to be considered family friendly. The fridge is miniscule about the size of a lunchbox, we had some frozen peas and could not freeze our esky cooler blocks. For some reason there were ants all over the bathroom? Luckily small black ants no giant bull ants. Seems expensive for what you get, but this could be due to the very remote location. Back on the east coast in Toowoomba and I'm getting double the space for $200 per night.
The room and bedding was very clean. The room had off street parking. The staff were friendly and helpful.

Very standard motel room. Looked "tired". BBQ had to be cleaned before we could use it and auto ignition not working. Overpriced.

The shower was dirty cracked very ugly had cockroaches in the room the security chain on the door was broken .ants nest with dirt on bottom outside of shower with ants crawling all over the toilet floor
