How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

We found the a la carte dinner menu needed a bit of a rethink. The kitchen is talented - many dishes were good to excellent individually ( superb bread, a memorable quinoa salad and a great mains flounder) but the mains come without anything else on the plate, eg a large serve of roast lamb, with no sides of any size and some of the limited side offerings seem an awkward "fit." The kitchen is generous, which is always a compliment, but the chips, while terrific, would have easily fed a family and we had food waste, as did other tables. The wine selection is varied and interesting.
The Oak and Anchor is an unusually attractive regional hotel, handsome from the outside and inside. The recent restoration has been done with a fine talented eye to retaining many features of the old building, in particular the superb interior stone work, broad corridors and stairs and large windows, while ensuring modern comforts. Our room was large and light, as was the bathroom. The restaurant is very attractive with good spacing between tables. Breakfast was a self-serve spread of key breakfast foods, all fresh and high quality, and generously barista coffees were available to order gratis with breakfast. The staff were all very friendly and welcoming. The location is terrific for foot access to the centre of Port Fairy and the marina/foreshore.

Our room had a very open bathroom layout - Lulubelle. Would definitely stay at the hotel again but would choose a different room.
Love the high quality linen, sumptuous bed. Lovely ambience in the hotel. Proximity to everything.

The front door was shut on arrival so had to go round the back of the hotel. Nothing major but felt the welcome could have been better.
We were met by Ali the owner and allocated the bridal suite which was a lovely surprise and a very well appointed room.

Need a small light next to toilet so can use toilet without turning on light and waking partner. There’s not enough storage, a small chest of drawers is needed.
Room was great. Loved the lay out and the fittings. Bed was comfortable and we loved to modern yet classy decor.

Toilet in room - yes it is an issue but shouldn’t stop you staying in the best accommodation the area has to offer.
Amazing original building beautifully restored by the current owners - a real wow The room and quality of bedding, comfort of bed ect were first class.

Absolutely nothing. Although we enjoyed the breakfast it is a bit limited, maybe needs more cereal option and explain to guests about the hot food option as we weren’t made aware. Other than that the place is perfect.
We stayed in the beau room and it was pure luxury! We didn’t want to leave! Quality of detail and furnishings were outstanding.

The toilet wasn’t private. The fridge was tiny , not good if you are on a trip and have food that needs refrigerating.
