Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

CanadaI would gladly have paid an extra A$5 for a more copious and varied breakfast that included bananas, hot porridge, etc. Hotel needs to be modernized as it has an old, worn out look about it. However, the price was reasonable.
Excellent location near the train station and Chinatown, which meant lots of restaurants to choose from. Friendly staff at reception and at breakfast. Good coffee. Air conditioning worked very well and the bed was comfortable, which meant I slept well. Small but functional bathroom. The room was small but since I was alone, this was perfectly adequate for my needs.

AustraliaHad a cockroach in our room one of the nights, the staff helped us take it out - but this was very disappointing.
Great location if the property, it is however an old establishment and that is evident in the rooms.

PhilippinesIts not we can say we didnt like but rather a room for improvement. There's ahould be some more options for breakfast. We choose the option of breakfast included as we saw the photos and prevuous reviews as the breakfast serves the continental breakfast. However, we got a breakfast without the mushroom and sauges anymore. Yes scambled eggs and bacon still there but better to have sauges and ham as well. With veggies will be great. Like mushroom and spinach. The choices of bread should be improved. Atleast with sourdough, brown bread., whole bread etc. There should have a selection of fruits too.
I like the facilities, location of the hotel and excellent customer service of the staff. Comfortable to stay with free WIFI. We got free upgrade on our room too.

AustraliaThere wasn't anything I didn't like about the Vulcan Hotel.
A very clean establishment. Felt very safe. The room was lovely and clean. The staff were exceptional, and i loved that the manager came and greeted me at breakfast and had a chat. The breakfast was lovely, which was included in the price. Will definitely come again. A 10 minute walk to Central station. What's not to like...

AustraliaThere were no window coverings so it was a bit bright at night.
It was the perfect size and the room’s facilities were great. The staff were helpful and accessing the property was easy. Check in and check out were both simple. It was a relatively short walk to Central Station.

New ZealandMy only complaint is that the pillows weren't comfortable for a long night's sleep. They felt fine, but I woke up with a bad headache my first morning, so put a towel underneath it for the second night, and that helped. Pillows are a subjective thing though, so not something that can necessarily be helped, as they could be fine for someone else.
The staff were so friendly and helpful, and the location is amazing. It's on a quieter street but just a short walk to Central Station, which makes travel easy. I was pleasantly surprised on arrival to store my luggage until check in, that my room was already available, so I could relax after my flight straight away. The buffet breakfast that's included had a great selection of cereals, toast, scrambled eggs, bacon, beans, fruit and apples, along with tea and coffee. Definitely a great way to start the day, relaxing in the peaceful cafe. Also happy to store my luggage upon check out as my flight was not until the evening.

AustriaWe have to deduct one star because the room was more practical than cosy. Based on the pictures, we expected a little more space (yes, we only booked 17 square metres) and less of a 'basement feeling'. We were also not convinced by the breakfast. The selection was limited to English breakfast. We especially missed fresh fruits and you have to pay for special coffee extra.
Our first stop in Australia was Sydney. We were looking for a nice little hotel in a good location to see all the main sights in Sydney and that wasn't too expensive. And that's what we found. (Although the prices in Sydney were probably higher than usual thanks to Taylor Swift). The Vulcan Hotel more than deserves its 4 stars as it is clean and the staff are very friendly and helpful. They responded to our small complaint as quickly as possible and apologised several times. If you are looking for a hotel with a great location and great staff, you will definitely find it here.
