How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.

Perfect for my visit to Wynyard for the Gone Nuts running event. Great location and facilities. Comfy bed and plenty of living space.

The street is quite busy, and noisy at night. This is not a fault of the owners. The fridge - it is SO noisy. Really irritating buzzing & almost robotic sounds, definitely on its way out. It kept me up at night multiple times. Not having wifi, this was a huge negative for me being in Wynyard for work! It was really difficult to even get a reasonable signal. I would have probably rated higher if this was installed if I’m completely honest.
Great location close to the Main Street and walking distance from the airport. The bedding was excellent, clean & really comfortable. The villa has everything you need, it’s clean, warm & homely!

It was clean, new and comfortable. Everything was there as in dishwashing liquid etc and I enjoyed the company of the animals. The location was great too.

I would have given the unit 10/10 but for three minor issues. I was a little surprised that I could not find a microwave and that there was no wi-fi (both of which I could manage without, as there were alternatives), but I could not live without a bottle opener/corkscrew, so I went to the Woolies around the corner and bought one, which is now in the cutlery drawer of Villa Giraffe.
I really enjoyed my short stay at Villa Giraffe. The location was ideal for me, being an easy 5 minute walk from the airport and another 5 minutes to the town centre (Woolworths, BWS, etc). Car parking was off-street and right outside the front door, which was very convenient. The unit was pretty much as described and as per previous reviews, so I won't repeat these here. However, I noted that a CCTV camera was monitoring the unit's exterior, so I assume that all movements are recorded.

Address and pin provided by Booking.com were incorrect and caused initial confusion until we contacted hosts and were provided with correct information. Had initial problems getting the heating working on the split system.
Property was clean, comfortable and had everything needed.

Couch and lounge chair needed more padding. Difficult to operate the reverse cycle heating / cooling. Even with instruction booklet. (Glad the electric heater worked well.)

Your email with pin code was incorrect took a bit of ringing around to get correct one . And hosts didn't send there email to us with correct pin for lock box on it. Wouldn't have been happy if we arrived late and weren't able to contact anyone . Bed was average a bit too soft .
