Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesThe property was under construction so the adults area and pool was not accessible. They booked us in oceanview rooms and added spa vouchers to make it up. Dinner to sister properties needed advanced reservations. The beach area itself was small.

United KingdomPools: the 'adults only' large landscaped pool is currently closed for the refurbishment, along with the spa and some of the rooms. We worried that this might cause noise/inconvenience, but you honestly don't notice a thing. However, the only pool currently available to guests is the 'children's pool' on the beachside, which is a rectangular pool about four feet deep and with room for about 20 sunbeds around it. It was good for swimming laps, but if I had small children with me I would have been disappointed. Beach: the beach is small. Nice, but small. This means that the sunbeds have to be placed quite close together (which doesn't feel very luxurious), and on rough days the large waves made the beach even smaller, cutting the number of sunbeds available to about 12. However, the hotel did offer a great beach-side drinks service, with frozen fruit kebabs and ice lollies offered every day. Decor: the hotel is undergoing a major refurbishment on the spa side (until end of May 2024), after which the beach side is, we understand, due for a lick of paint. This is definitely needed on the exterior (from the sea the place looks very tired), although the public areas are absolutely fine.
Location: on the supposedly calm west coast of Barbados (although for six of the eight days we were there the sea was too rough for water sports or boat trips), the hotel is well located for shops, bus stops, etc. Room: we had a split level ocean view room on the third (top) floor, which was fantastic. Gorgeous views, a balcony, two tvs, big bed, good shower, quiet but effective air con, and extras like a kettle, ironing board, safe, hair dryer, robes, mini bar etc. Housekeeping kept it spotless. Food: choice of three cafe/restaurants. We enjoyed all three (particularly the Asian fusion restaurant located in the spa wing over the road). Probably the best food we have had at a 4* all inclusive. There is the option to eat at one of the other hotels in the small group, but those guests that did said that the food at Waves was by far the best. Staff: top marks for the staff - whoever trains them has done a great job. Service in the Caribbean can be patchy, but we found that everyone from the front desk, housekeeping, restaurant/bar staff to the beach/pool ambassadors and the concierge were a credit to the hotel. Tours: the hotel offers four different tours/trips. We did the scenic island tour and the swimming with turtles tour: both excellent (particularly the latter). Guest Info: each morning at breakfast guests are given a daily 'what's on' newsletter, detailing anything going on it the hotel that day, plus anything happening on the island that might be of interest. Really useful!

United KingdomThe check-in process was very lengthy, and we waited for our room for more than an hour. We managed to get it only after 4 pm, even though the official check-in time was declared as 3 pm. There were no fireworks at the New Year's Party, and the party itself finished at 1 am. Additionally, after dinner at 7 pm, there were no snacks available except alcohol. We had aimed to celebrate New Year's and had specifically booked that hotel for it and were very dissapointed. The beach is very narrow and small, with sunbeds placed tightly and at uncomfortable angles. The entire beach is rocky, making it dangerous to enter the sea due to the uneven terrain. Additionally, there are no piers for boats, which are available for different water sports, posing a real danger during disembarking and embarking. The swimming pool is small, and the water in it is very cold. Some of the staff are not friendly. We had an issue with the air conditioner, which was leaking, and some of our belongings got wet as a result. They worked on fixing it for the whole day but eventually managed to resolve the problem.
The interior of the hotel is really nice, and the food was excellent with a wide variety of choices. We also enjoyed live music during the New Year party. We liked the large size of the balcony and the sea view from it.

PanamaThe beach is a little small, and sometimes they are short of lounge chairs. Food for lunch could be improved. The dinner menu is much better.
The facilities and decor look modern and in very good condition. The staff is great and very nice. The water sports and water taxi to go and visit other sister properties are a great addition.

United KingdomThe only thing that wasn't as expected was renovations to the other pool should have been completed by 15th December according to our booking and it wasn't available for our whole stay until 23rd December.
This was our 2nd time at the Waves and we've been going to the island for over 10 years - it's an incredible hotel and the staff really make it. The food is great, along with drinks and Barbados is paradise! We look forward to being back to the magical island very soon!

United KingdomThe food was a bit boring . The girl on the front desk of the spa was beyond unpleasant .To be honest I had a voucher to use up but I just couldn’t bear to have to deal with her unpleasant behaviour .IF this was my Spa I would remove her from that position as she clearly hates her job and has zero people skills .There was no meet and greet just an ugly stare .I actually ask her if she was ok because she looked so out of sorts .It’s a shame because the spa was actually the reason I booked the hotel .A guest told me I could use other hotels owned by the group close by for the pool and dinner but really this should have been explained on arrival .The pool was very small .

United KingdomHalf of the hotel was closed due to renovations, but we were not informed of this prior to our stay. It was advertised as adult only, however the adult only area was the part that was closed for renovation & the best swimming pool was in the closed area.
The hotel was great! Good food, great location & amazing staff. We had a sea view room on the 1st floor - it was clean, very spacious, decent size balcony & lovely huge bed. Plenty of sunbeds on the sandy beach & free watersports. A nice beach bar/Italian restaurant was only 7 minutes walk along the beach. Free water taxi to the 'sister' hotels but Waves was definitely the better of the 3 with the best beach, food & staff! We had 3 complimentary spa treatments during our 6 night stay - we weren't aware of this when we booked so this was a bonus (but it could have been because the adults only section was closed).

United KingdomUnfortunately we had food poisoning and so did a numerous amounts of other guests… the staff cared for us however claimed that nobody else had reported food poisoning. It ruined the end of our trip- and we were bed bound for two days. There’s not much round the hotel- and taxis are very expensive.
The staff made this stay extremely enjoyable, so kind, friendly and SO attentive. They learn to know your names off by heart, and go out of their way to make sure they’ve done enough for you. The beach was lovely, and the massages and other treatments we had booked were the best I’ve ever had!

United KingdomBooked last minute to attend a funeral. Room 510 is advertised as having a balcony and being over the spa. What it doesn't say is that the only view from the balcony is of the roof of the foyer and restaurant. It didn't bother us as we were out for 2 of the 3 days we stayed but wouldn't have been happy otherwise. Would think that it should be a courtesy room.
Friendly and efficient service from restaurant and front desk staff. Good quality food and drink, housekeeping decorated the bedroom for Valentines day which was a nice touch.

United KingdomAt times the hotel felt over crowded meaning limited sun beds and delays at reception. My expectation was for a very high standard of service given the price but that was , at times , a little hit and miss . I think that Barbados is an extremely expensive Island so much of the price is accounted for with food and drink rather than high end service .
The lay out of the hotel is beautiful with the view of the sea dominating . Mostly the food was of high standard and the spa treatments were amazing. We had an ocean view room which was incredible.

United StatesOur room was a bit dated. The room and room amenities felt 3 star (maybe 3.5 star), but definitely not 4 or 5 star. The rest of the property, however, was very nice (solid 4 star).
The staff was fantastic - super friendly and genuine! The food was good (not excellent or high-end, but tasty and good quality). Beach, pool, and landscaping were nice. Access to water sports was free, and fun. Overall, very good experience.

CanadaI did not know we would be across the street when booking. They have 2 sructures. The main building and the one across the street. Had i known i was across the busy street i would not have booked here. It was nice but we wanted to be in the building that i looked at when i booked. I think that when they tell you the room is in the spa pool area, it makes you think it is not facing the beach but still in the same tructure you are looking at when booking. I feel that that is not honest. I think people should have an informed choice. The staff was so kind and great. That part was famtastic. :)
