Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

Czech RepublicThe location is absolutely perfect, very central and quiet at the same time. It’s a stylish old house with vintage decorations - think maison de maître - so it may look narrow but you will be surprised how much space there actually is. We were in the Garden Room, which includes the ground floor and the first floor, and you really get A LOT of space. There is a sitting room and a dining room plus a kitchen on the ground floor, and a bathroom with a bathtub and a separate toilet. AND you get access to a small garden yard. If you take the stairs from the entrance hallway (shared with another room on 2nd and 3rd floors), you get to your bedroom, plus you have another, smaller bathroom and another room with a kitchenette. So really, you are not cramped! I only wouldn’t recommend it to people who are either too lazy or unable to climb stairs :) The owners, Eric and Lydia, are very helpful (they reacted very efficiently when we had a hiccup with the key), and in the room you will find a list of recommended places in Ghent with colourful descriptions. (I can add one more: café WAY, if you’re into specialty coffee!). There is a fridge, microwave, a kettle, a cooker and I think also an oven and coffee-maker (perhaps Nespresso?) in the kitchen – we were only staying for one night so didn’t even explore everything. I definitely think this is a good choice when visiting Ghent!

United KingdomReally we were big fans! We originally booked top two floors not realising that there were not full kitchen facilities; after a week of exceptional Belgian restaurants we wanted to dial it down and chill! Eric magnificently rose to the occasion and swapped us around. We were deeply grateful for his kindness. Both apartments have their merits but the ground floor could be truly magnificent with just a few tweaks such as more crockery, cutlery, a bread knife, some place mats and coasters, tea towels, overhead lighting switches in the living room working fully and some more hangers in wardrobe. If it had a washing machine and a TV/sound system we would move in! We very well may be back…
Wonderful location in a great city full of art, food, good bars and beautiful views. Stylishly updated ground and first floor rooms - mid century aesthetic chiming with original features. Charming courtyard waits for summer to shine. The politest students in Europe in the area. All done with a touch of class and humour. Loved the artwork including the V&A photography exhibition I recognised! Very helpful and prompt communication from Eric who was super supportive and generous. All his suggestions were spot on - Alice for breakfast!

United KingdomA lot of stairs. Not a big problem but you may struggle a bit if you have a big suitcase. Otherwise the property is fabulous
A beautiful house in a quiet neighborhood and a breath away from the historic centre of Ghent. The aesthetic and decoration of the house is impeccable and very carefully designed. The rooms are massive and it brings such a cosy vibe

AustraliaIt was a little challenging having to negotiate stairs during night to visit the bathroom on the level below but if one is fit that should not be a problem. Some more kitchen implements and microwave dish would be most useful.
The accommodation has the charm of a bygone era and we liked the quirky and eclectic nature of the furnishings and paintings. The attic on 4th floor was the bedroom which housed a very comfortable KS bed, plenty of seating, space to enjoy a game of chess and an array of reading material. A lovely view over the roofs of the old city was a bonus. Easy walking distance to the old centre. Host very accommodating.

RomaniaThis is a place out of the ordinary stays available on Booking: a lot of space is available to move around with some very nice touches. The location is close to town center and railway station (by foot), in a very quite area.

South AfricaBathroom is on different floor to bedroom. Shower very small with a shower curtain. The stairs are very narrow and steep. You have to carry your suitcase in your arms in front of you.
We stayed in the loft apartment. It is conveniently located in a quiet area. It is very spacious, but the layout is strange. Please note that the bedroom is on the 3rd floor and the lounge and bathroom is on the 2nd. Nice lounge suites and bed.

GermanyMost importantly is to know that the bedroom is seperate from the rest of the apartment. It can only be reached by the public stairwell. Sadly it wasn't very clean, the floor was still dirty and especially the apartment on the ground floor smelled strange.
The interior design seems really artsy and stylish and the furniture is very comfortable. Moreover the staff is very friendly and the location couldn't be better.

GermanyEverything was great. It is a beautiful old apartment and stilishly furnished. There is a living room and a kitchen to share. Also everything super clean and nicely decorated. We had a great stay Gent. It is a wonderful city. Any time again we'd stay at Artist's Loft.

United KingdomThe artists loft is an excellent place to stay. Very spacious and beautifully designed, it's also very easy to access in the city and close to the canalside/bars/restaurants/cultural sites. Erik's information in advance and in the apartment was really helpful and he also managed to accommodate a late request for an early check-in. The apartment was cosy with a very tranquil atmosphere. We absolutely loved it and would definitely stay there again if visiting Gent.

CanadaIt was sweltering hot and there wasn’t even a fan in the attic. I thought there was television but there’s just a tv to play dvds. I didn’t like that the bedroom has no door and there’s another person living in the downstairs. I didn’t feel as safe and secure as I would have otherwise.
Clean, comfortable bed, clear instructions for check in, appreciated having the coffee maker and plates, the decor has character. Good location in the city too.
