Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

GermanyNot much to complain here. The communication before arriving was a little difficult (like finding out how to get to the hotel parking), but was fine once there. Do note that the rooms are right off the staircase which is a little creaky. So you notice when people go up or down. If I had to make a suggestion for improvement: It would be nice to get free water in the hotel. The tap water tastes a little funny and the bottles in the minibar are pretty expensive.
Perfect home base to explore the old town - while still in a relatively quiet side street. If you like eccentric decoration and style - this is your hotel! Most rooms are not huge, but each has a special feature - ours had a balcony. Breakfast is rich and tasty with Muesli, Joghurt, rolls and croissants, but the same everyday. All in all I would recommend the hotel anytime.

AustraliaSadly rooms require a very good upgrade with curtains and sliding door to Terrance sitting area broken. Seats on Terrance seats faulty and dangerous due to moisture damage. Great original early style stairs to levels, but extremely difficult to negotiate for 60yrs old with luggage for 4weeks in Europe.
Very central to main center and great breakfast. Pretty amazing decor in sitting room and bedrooms. All staff and owner very pleasant and helpful.

SwitzerlandHorrible hotel, dirty and with evident no maintenance since long time. Several lights not working, wall sockets the same, the moquette was absolutely disgusting. Worst part was the infestation of cockroaches and bed fleas, this hotel is absolutely unhealthy. Extremely expensive for what offered More than 250 euros/night Under these circumstances we decided to leave the second day. The owner Mr Maarten did agree in written to reimburse the second night. He promised to transfer the money, which he has not done.
Hotel well placed - that's all!

AustraliaA dirty run down dump of a property infested with bed bugs- we subsequently found multiple reviews on Google reviews dating back at least 6 months where customers were complaining of same, posting photos of their bodies covered in welts and complaining of an unresponsive host. When we told the owner and showed him my daughter completely covered in welts he immediately offered to pay back a nights accommodation but said to send through banking details as he couldn’t refund to credit card. As per the previous victims we have been completely ignored by him now for days now so do not expect a response. Do not stay here unless you want to walk around Europe looking like you have the plague for at least two weeks.

United KingdomCottage was unclean, it very dusty and appeared as if no-one had stayed for some time. Used sanitary products were found in the bedroom under the bed located on the top floor. Contacted phone number listed for hotel, no answer, staff in the morning suggested to just contact manager but did not seemed bothered that we had experienced this. No one in the hotel upon arrival, able to access eventually via telephone instructions, when text/phoned the contact number no prompt responses just kept going to voicemail. TV did not work as no smartcard inserted for use. Not an ideal stay for a family, would not stay again.

NetherlandsUnfortunately there is a striking contrast between its promising exterior and the disappointing condition of its rooms. Despite its convenient location and charming facade, guests should brace themselves for interiors that fall short of expectations. The rooms, unfortunately, show significant signs of neglect, with wear and tear that detracts from comfort and aesthetics. A particularly distressing issue is the presence of cockroaches around the bed area at night, which is unacceptable for any lodging establishment. This glaring oversight in cleanliness and maintenance greatly undermines the potential of Hotel Diamonds and Pearls, necessitating immediate attention to bring its standards up to par with guest expectations.
Location is incredibly good and the staff is extremely friendly. The entrance and main area of the hotel is very nice. Also the breakfast area is ok.

PortugalIt looks a charming hotel, but it is disapointing. The floor of the room, made of wood, was full of holes, which is not pleasent particularly in old buildings like this one. Furnitures were not well treated, with some dust. We left after arriving.

United StatesPersonally, "now" me did not enjoy the death stairs up and down to the room. "5 years ago me" would have enjoyed them for sure. I could see how, on the weekends (our stay was during the week, not in tourist season) the location could be rather loud. We did not experience that though
Let's start with Jason. Jason is the bomb, a force in the welcoming universe, that is all. The location was incredible, the room, beautiful and comfy for real. We did not try the breakfasts there, so cannot comment there.
