Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesInstructions on using the air conditioner could be better. Couldn't get it to work properly, but the staff refunded a portion of our room fee which was a huge surprise and greatly appreciated.
We did not order the breakfast so we cannot comment on that, but the location was excellent. Within walking distance to what we wanted to see.

SwitzerlandI appreciated everything about my two-night stay at Edgar Guesthouse, and will most certainly return when I am in Gent again. The room was very comfortable and exceptionally clean. The refined and minimalist style, beautiful wooden furniture, and natural-toned textiles (and fine quality bedsheets, etc) give one a feeling of mental calm (and of being on holiday). Their restaurant around the corner, Edgar kaasbar, has a lovely selection of food and drinks. And I would recommend the Edgar’s breakfast basket. Also, the location is perfect! Very near to the Gent-Dampoort station and you can walk to everything from the guesthouse. Tip-top!

United StatesMy room was on the 4th floor and it was a walk-up; I had a very heavy suitcase and it was difficult to manage. Wish I got a heads up about this in advance. There was also no fitness center as it was a house; wish I had known that as I packed workout clothing.
Excellent location in the middle of everything. Exceptionally walkable, great amenities and excellent recommendations for local spots from the owners.

United StatesThe room is a little small for the price. Yet I traveled during a popular tourist season so it could be that the price was in line with other accomodations for the time of year.
I think the location overall was good. It is a five minute walk from the historic sites. It is also within a 15 minute walk to Gent Dampoort Train Station. It is far from the main train station but so is are the main sites anyway. The room was comfortable and air conditioned and the management was very responsive. This is a guesthouse as opposed to a hotel, which I have never experienced before, but was overall pleased with the experience.

United KingdomUnfortunately, we both found the pillows quite uncomfortable, which did make it harder to sleep. Also, people who book the twin room should be aware that it's on the ground floor, so you can hear whenever any of the other guests come in or out, or walk up and down the stairs. You can also hear the noise from the street, but since the street is fairly quiet, this wasn't too much of a problem. I imagine the noise would be absolutely fine if you're staying in a room on one of the higher floors!
The room was very beautifully decorated: simple and clean. The shower also had great pressure and there was also a hand-held spray, which was nice to have. The fact that there is a separate toilet and shower room meant it was also easy to get ready in the mornings without our schedules clashing too much! The location was also good: it was about a 10 minute walk from the very central parts of Ghent and 15 minute walk (with suitcases) from the Gent-Dampoort train station. It was down a side street, so not very loud or busy at night, but easy to walk anywhere you needed to go. There's also a small coffee machine and free water if you need some refreshments in the evening. The cleaner was good, and even folded my pyjamas for me when making the bed! The check-in process is so easy. You get sent a code that opens the front door and the room door, so you can go in and out as you please while feeling secure, but can text the hosts at any point if you have any problems. The hosts were incredibly helpful and let us leave our suitcases at their restaurant after we checked out so we didn't have to carry them around the city centre!

United KingdomBeautifully renovated room in townhouse in old part of town. Easy access to parks, canals, sights and loads of places to eat. The owners were extremely friendly - I was cycle touring in 30+ degree heat and they gave me a bottle of water from the restaurant fridge when I arrived, which was much appreciated! Also let me store my bike in their garage.
