Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

CanadaStairs up and down the apartment were challenging for us, travellers of a third age , but were part of the beauty of this location
The apartment is located in an old house with all windows looking to the medieval Gravensteen castle. It is spread on three levels , Kitcken and dinning , living and up in the attic the bedroom. It is decorated with historic and artistic flair but having all modern facilities the modern traveler might need ( including washer and dish washer). It was a beautiful surprise for a short vacation as was town Ghent itself .

United StatesThe living areas were clean, but the walls and carpeting were showing signs of wear. But overall cleanliness was good. The stairs to top were steep, as stated by the owner so I just slept on sofa and was quite comfortable. It was really not a problem.
We were emailed a code several days prior to arrival. The door code worked perfectly.

AustraliaThe ladder/steps up to the attic were a little tricky when bleary-eyed in the middle of the night to pee, however, added to the overall charm. Weekend crowds were a little overwhelming.
The location is awesome. Picturesque. Charming apartment. Great view of a medieval castle just outside the front windows.

United KingdomAs mentioned, there are a lot of stairs and the stairs up the bedroom is pretty much a ladder so not good for anyone with mobility issues. Also the shower is open (although on a mezzanine floor and hidden behind a wall) so best for couples or very very good friends who are not shy!
The photos of this 'apartment' do not do it justice! It is a full 3 story historic townhouse. Such an amazing location just opposite the Gravensteen castle yet super quiet on the night. The kitchen is fully stocked and the living room and bedroom is massive. The host was very helpful and communicative. I would definitely stay here again if I ever return to Ghent.

PhilippinesNothing. It’s all good, really.
The host provided us a manual that had all the information we needed. It saved a lot of time and gave helpful tips including food recommendations to ensure a memorable stay in Ghent. Love the location of the property. It’s just a stone’s throw away from Gravensteen where tram stops are situated making it a convenient and ideal location from which to explore the city. The property is very spacious and has got all that we need. It’s equipped with a washer/dryer, kitchen utensils and cookware, not to mention the dishwasher which was indeed a plus for a travelling family. The apartment’s heating was superb making it a warm nest during our winter stay. What can I say, it is real value for money.

Australianothing I could complain about, although the open bathroom may be a problem for other people if you demanded total privacy.
Absolutely fantastic location right next to Gravensteen castle and a very short stroll to shops and sights in the centre. The apartment itself is very clean and comfortable, a nice spacious lounge area and a huge bedroom area on the top floor. The kitchen is well equipped. Totally exceeded my expectations and Ghent itself totally exceeded my expectations. I would definitely stay here again when in Ghent.

United KingdomSome access issues in this house to be aware of if people have mobility challenges. The master bedroom is almost a ladder to access room.
One of the best locations have ever stayed in around the World. Right in centre, in a monumental apartment and right next to the medieval castle. Really incredible stuff. Fantastic host - had an issue with the boiler but sorted it as best she could right away.

NetherlandsThere are a few areas that could benefit from some improvement. The shower didn't seem very appealing.
It's a spacious apartment spread over four floors. There are many positive aspects to this place: a well-stocked kitchen, large rooms, a comfortable couch, a charming style (apart from the bold green kitchen cabinets), and large windows. Of course, the pièce de résistance is undeniably the location: the apartment is situated opposite the castle, providing spectacular views, especially at night. Many people even stopped on the sidewalk in front of the apartment to capture photos of the castle. Additionally, Ghent's city center is so compact that you can reach any destination swiftly from the apartment.

SwedenUnfortunately, and unkowingly, we booked the stay right in the middle of the yearly ten day long Gent Festival. The music stages were very close by and every night the performances continued until 1 o'clock AM. If you are not into festivals, avoid this house in the middle of July because you will not sleep. The house has a very quirky layout and not suitable for children under 4 years. Beware that neither the bedroom nor the bathroom has any doors. (The two toilets have though.) The house could have been a little cleaner as well and the linen was a bit tired, but no big deal. The central location made up for it.
The location was amazing, right in the center of Gent. Gent is a beautiful town and very enjoable. The house is quirky and has some really nice old features. All amenities you could need. The host responded quickly when we had a question.

CanadaThere really isn't much to dislike. A quirky and comfortable home of both antique and modern stature in a practical and easy to get to location

United KingdomAmazing house, right in the centre of Ghent. The castle view is fabulous, and the house is really spacious and comfortable, and excellent value for money. The photos don't do it justice! The location is really brilliant, directly across from the castle in the centre of the old town, moments from most of the attractions but surprisingly quiet. The kitchen is well equipped, the sitting room is large and very comfortable, and the bedroom is gorgeous. We were there when it snowed, and stayed cozy too. Not suitable for anyone with mobility issues because of the steep stairs to the attic bedroom, but anyone else will be blown away by the great value and historic charm of this gem.

RussiaJust one thing: to reach the bedroom on the 3rd floor you need to use really steep stairs which isn't very easy to do with suitcase.
House has perfect location - 3 min walking to the historical city center. The view of the castle from the windows is amazing. It was really interesting to leave in the old house with modern renovation (kitchen and bathroom). Thank you for that experience.

NetherlandsNothing we didn't like, but good to take into account that there are stairs, and the ones leading up to the bedroom are quite steep, so wouldn't recommend if you're less mobile
Great location and atmosphere, it's basically an old townhouse. Loads of room and good kitchen. Right up against the castle in the middle of the city, really great. Also owner responds quickly to questions
