Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomCoffee facility in room but no tea available. No complimentary biscuit with the coffee tray (all cafes and bars in Mechelen provide a little biscuit or similar with a coffee. This is the first hotel I have stayed in anywhere that didn't provide this!). Pillows are ridiculously small. No facility to play music. Much corporate decor with some really ill considered touches (huge chunky wardrobe and side tables) in what would be a stunning room had it been considerately furnished and decorated with the church in mind. The church features/history are doing a lot of heavy lifting to sell this hotel, but they are not made the most of - so much modern glass and chain hotel design (especially in the lobby and bar) means they're not highlighted as much as they should be and the church features seem to fade into the background a little. Did not purchase breakfast (25 euros per person) - there are so many eateries around that you're spoiled for choice if you don't mind a late breakfast. Repeated messages after booking selling their 'upgraded' packages of champagne in room etc. No recommendations offered from staff for eating, visiting, culture, etc while checking in - and there is so much of these in this lovely city! No asking if we enjoyed our stay at check out so very little opportunity to give feedback. Queues to check in and out.
The location is good although Mechelen is so easy to walk around and there are better places to stay. The church features are lovely but fade into the background of a corporate chain decor.

United KingdomReception most unhelpful! They were slow and with only one on duty at a time, despite several other people being in the background office!! When the queues increased, no one made any effort to come and assist the sole Receptionist! Reported a heating problem within the room (Xmas time, so it's very cold). Supposedly it was attended to! But we had a terrible nights sleep, heating banging loudly and intermittent! Only left one toilet roll which for a hotel of this standing is unacceptable! Had to request a kettle to make hot drinks as we were so cold! Obviously no one in the hotel has ever tried to plug this kettle into the wall! The cord only reaches if you go by the entrance door and use that plug! Pathetic! Why don't hotel's get their staff to stay in their rooms occasionally to test/try them out for themselves!! Then they'd experience being cold! Not being able to get to sleep due to noise etc etc. TV had very limited channels! Location not near centre as we had been led to believe and when we visited, the chaos of building work surrounding the hotel, made the bottom of our cases absolutely filthy ! Sand, dust etc. Not good.
Attractive, large rooms BUT none of that is helpful to anyone if you're freezing cold!!

NetherlandsBreakfast not fit for such a pretentious hotel. Breakfast staff just unfriendly. Design of breakfast room terrible. Can't imagine an interior designer was involved. All drab colors. Whole hotel needs a make-over and they should show the fact that is used to be a church much more. We found it all really depressing. We ordered an upgraded room which was still small and very dark. Nothing special about it.
Staff at reception was nice. Location near the centre is very good.

United KingdomThe refurbishment of the old church is stunning - and the location just around the corner from the main areas was perfect. All staff I came into contact with were friendly and helpful and were the main reason I decided to stay in a Mechelen longer than I originally expected. Breakfast was excellent and served in a incredible setting. My bike was securely kept in the lower car park. If I was in Mechelen again, I would stay here without any hesitation.

GermanyDo not use the parking garage. It’s 30€/night which is highway robbery for this town. But my biggest complaint is there’s no lift up in the garage; you have to cart your luggage up some steep stairs and walk the block to the hotel. May as well park at the Q Park. The Wi-Fi is tiered and, as usual when they’re incentivized to, quite bad. I really wish Booking would change listings like this from “Free Wi-Fi” to “Tiered Wi-Fi.” Because tiered is never good. They wouldn’t even give me a slightly late (30 minute) checkout without charging me extra (even though checkout is early at 11). There’s nothing in the minibar, it’s really just a fridge.
The beds are pretty comfortable, the room service isn’t bad and the air conditioning gets pretty cold.

FinlandOut room hadn’t been cleaned properly and there was an empty liquor bottle in the minibar. When I told this to the reception, the only answer was ’ok, we’ll take it off when you leave’. The bathroom wasn’t anything like in the pictures. Just a plain and boring modern bathroom instead of what was shown in the advertising material. The hotel added some taxes on the top of the price given at the Booking.com even though it said at Booking.com that the price includes all taxes and charges. When I asked about this at the reception, they just smiled and said that this is how it is.
Hotel is very unique and has a great atmosphere. The location is excellent: close to the citycenter of Mechelen and less than 30 minutes from the Brussels airport.
