Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

SingaporeWooden floor planks are squeaky. Beams make movement difficult. We have to avoid knocking our heads on them. The steps leading to the room entrance are not easy when you have a huge luggage to bring along.
The uniqueness of the building. Beds are comfortable. Shower pressure is good. There's a powerful heater in the bathroom.

FinlandThe staff was quite unfriendly and cocky. The bar service closed half an hour earlier than written on the ad downstrairs. When asked if there was the possibility of buying something in the room as there is literally nothing (bars, cafés or shops) in the radius of at least 1km from the hotel, we were told in an unfriendly way that ”no glass bottles are allowed in the room and therefore they sell nothing”. Still, the complimentary water in the room was in a glass bottle! The same guy made us notice when checking out that we were late and should normally pay but only this time let it slide. Great gesture as such as we had been stupid thinking that the check out time was the normal midday. Our bad and would have been delighted to pay those extra few euros instead of leaving with a bad taste in my mouth; the comment was not done in a friendly but mainly in a sardonic way. Pity as made me open my mouth of the fact that no info was given to us upon our arrival, no real services were provided. In addition, if you wish to have breakfast, make sure to head downstairs at least an hour before the service closes as people eat everything really quickly and half an hour before the service ceases there is practically nothing to eat anymore.
The hotel is special but not as special as in the pictures. The room was spacious and unique though the carpet was filthy. One friendly man in the breakfast room made the general atmosphere slightly better.

NetherlandsWe had a family stander room. The rooms has some mosquitoes. They were flying all the night and really annoying. My daughter got some bites. The room was a bit warm. It’s a very old building. It’s beautiful but also a bit creepy.

FranceIt is an older place with wooden floors - expect to hear your neighbors coming back at all hours from enjoying the nightlife in Ghent. But it is part of the experience of staying in this beautiful monastery.
Location was excellent- close to the historical center. The staff were very kind, efficient and helpful. It is a unique and memorable place to stay. The room was comfortable & lovely.

NetherlandsThe whole building and including the rooms could use a maintenance overhaul. The carpets in the hallways, walls and broken windows here and there. I did manage to fix the loose wall outlet in the room myself. Although you would expect squeaky floors you can hear this from other rooms as well, so it is all a bit noisy. The room itself was a bit dusty and there was a sewer odour coming from the toilet every now and then. Also I understand the beam in the middle of the room is part of the structure of the building, it would surprise me noone ever gets injured with the wooden nails sticking out at head height.
It is a very nice location, in a former monastery. And a lot of the features still exist including the nice church. The rooms look nice and modern but could to with a bit more attention from maintenance. The room is quite spacious even though there is a beam in the middle of the room. The beds were relatively comfy but my back seemed to disagree after two nights. Staff is friendly and helpful and breakfast is nothing special but fine. A good tip would be to make better use of the gardens (remove some cars) so people are more invited to sit and enjoy their stay there.

United StatesThis was the first time my husband and I had to sleep in twin beds at a hotel. It was a rather unusual idea to “offer” for travelers.
The hotel was in a wonderful location with easy access from the train station and a short walk to the key avenue of historic and tourist sites. The tongue and cheek nunnery art really set the stage for the hotel-loved it! This is a beautiful historic campus, that manages to incorporate contemporary upgrades in the rooms without losing the feel of the original campus.

United KingdomSound travels from other rooms, especially creaking floors and doors and an early alarm clock. No a/c despite being included in the booking, only a portable fan. It's an old building and the windows were reluctant/Impossible to open Poor lighting and internal noise were the negatives. Overall, the likes exceeded the dislikes.
Excellent location without road noise as our room was at the back, secure parking, large room in the main building, comfy bed, sitting area. Huge bathroom

TurkeyStairs, there are many stairs and it can be hard for some travelers, but the staff is helpful so it's not a big problem.
Hotel Monasterium PoortAckere had a great location. You can walk everywhere without getting tired and explore the city comfortably by foot. The ambiance of the building and the heritage was unquestionable. The breakfast is definitely exceptional and serving champagne / prosecco / cava was a nice touch for starting the day.

GermanyThe breakfast was poor, we haven’t found anything to eat for our kid, but after all we managed the breakfast costs with the reception team. They said they try to improve the breakfast. Right now it’s too bad and too expensive - 25 Euro per person.
The family room has two floors, big enough and comfortable for 2 adults with children.

United StatesThere are very few restaurants in the immediate area so you will need to walk 10-15 minutes. For the most part this is fine, but when you are tired and just want something quick, it would be nice to have nearby options.
My family of 4 (ages 18+) stayed in a quad room. Two of the beds (bunk beds) were in a separate room which gave us all more space for privacy and relaxation, which was really nice. Hotel was quiet and peaceful, staff was helpful, and breakfast was good and super convenient and included champagne! We loved that it’s a historic property. The courtyard is a nice area for hanging out in the evenings or for bringing in food for a picnic.

United KingdomThe parking is tight I'm not sure how the amount of spaces matches up to the amount of rooms.
A Lovely, clean comfortable hotel in a nice quiet location just a short walk from the river and the centre. The staff were amazing. The rooms are beautifully decorated the beds are soft, which I love. They provide a coffee machine, toiletries and the plug sockets next to the bed have seperate USB ports. We only stopped one night so didn't use the bar and we didn't have breakfast so I cannot comment on all the facilities.

United KingdomThe hotel is in a great location for walking into Gent city centre. The building has been completely refurbished to a high standard, providing very comfortable rooms with all the amenities you would need during the stay. The Staff were all very friendly and helpful, when ever needed. A big bonus was also the car parking on-site which for Gent is a real plus.

United KingdomThere was nothing we didn’t like, it was all fine and I would definitely stay in the same hotel again.
Perfect location, short walking distance to all the best bits of town but far enough to seem very quiet and peaceful, especially as the festival was on whilst we were there, and we weren’t disturbed by noise at all. It’s a stones throw from some very nice cafes, bars and restaurants, so even if you didn’t want to go into the middle of Ghent there’s plenty of places to try. It actually feels very safe and secluded in the hotel and there is a lovely central quite big courtyard type garden area in the middle of the property. Rooms are spotlessly clean with nice light and windows that open onto the garden area. The staff in particular were very sweet and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Our only disappointment was that there seemed to be a shortage of coffee when we were there! The room was not topped up with coffee facilities at all and we kept having to ask at reception for coffee pods for our morning cup of coffee, not good!
