Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

CanadaLight bulbs need to be changed. The bathroom sink is useless. I recommend using glossy paint for areas with high humidity or dirt accumulation (around sinks, on baseboards, etc), this way the dust and dirt will be easier to manage.
Bright and spacious. All amenities were useful.

United KingdomThe only tiny fault was that there was no tin open or cheese grater. This really wasn't the end of the world though!
Wow! A really quirky room, with a lovely terrace too. We absolutely loved staying there and would definitely go back. Nele was so friendly and helpful. Thank you for the wine left on the side :) Perfectly situated for easy access to the beautiful city centre (just a short walk) with a supermarket close by. Great that you can charge an electric car at the property too. We loved the garden by the canal with the chicken! We would definitely recommend staying here!

AustraliaNothing - loved everything
Fantastic location close to Ghent train station, great venues, restaurants and easy walk to old town centre. Property itself is secluded back from the road, and was an oasis for us during our time here. All the amenities were available here, plenty of living space both inside and out. A wonderful back garden, complete with chickens, that leads down to the river.

United KingdomThe bathroom only had a curtain separating it from the main living space, rather than a door, and the shower didn't have a hook for the head to have stand up shower. The heating was a little tricky to figure out so it would be great to have a guide for future visits.
The location of The Hide is perfect. The tram stop is right outside the front entrance but, everything is only a short walk away. There is a night shop opposite which was handy as well as lots of local restaurants. The apartment is very stylish and has everything you could want as well as being behind an electric gate which felt very safe and secure. The area is quiet, but also you have the option of local bars/pubs if you fancy a drink. The hosts were very helpful and got back to us quickly with any questions. We would definitely stay here again if we were to return to Ghent.

United StatesWeird vibe in communications, pitched at young people--"Hello, seeker!" and suchlike. Red satin sheets (!). Hard to understand heating and lighting system, but quick response to text about it.
Fine location, comfortable bed.

AustraliaWe had some trouble with the hot water (just in consistent). The owner did however make another room available to us during our stay and was getting someone in to look at the hot water.
The property was well positioned and had everything you could need. The design was quirky and interesting. The host was very attentive to any questions.

BelgiumCan't think of anything
It was exactly what I was looking for : clean, warm, welcome. I liked the location, you have everything you need : a grocery store 50m away, locations for breakfast, diner, shopping... The glass of the room is thick, but you still hear the demped city noises. For me, that was absolutely fine, and actually pleasant. Don't rent something in a city center if you want it to be completely quiet.

Very nice and clean apartment. It has everything you need for a short stay and is very comfortable. The location was excellent, lots of local restaurants, cafes and bars and a ten min walk into the centre.

IrelandNele is a fantastic host and she kindly showed us around the apartment and how to use the gate and door codes. This apartment is super convenient, here is a Spar and Carrefour just outside the apartment, there is a tram ticket machine and stops just outside as well. The location is slap bang in the middle the road which goes from historic centre of town to the train station and was super convenient for getting around and getting to the airport as well. Ghent is lovely, nice cafes, shops and loads there for history buffs as well plus we went to Bruges one day as well, half an hour by train. The apartment was cosy and clean and top notch.
