Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United StatesNo fault of the hotel as I hear Brazil is constantly changing its electrical systems but even though I had two types of adaptors supposedly ok neither worked. Fortunately there was one 110 outlet for our EU type adaptor.
We were routinely warned about safety in Rio so pulling up to a castle seemed like a joke! Fernanda opened the gate and was fantastic all weekend even though our conversations were usually via Google translate. We arrived just before dusk so the view of the city all the way to the ocean was amazing and quickly turned to the twinkling lights of a city at night. If you've stayed in the Al Fama section of Lisbon it'll look similar. You could see the pool below and the elevator reaches the pool, not all the rooms. There's a courtyard here with a small seating area. Luckily our room was on the main level so we didn't have to haul luggage up or down stairs and the room was enormous. The bathroom had a great shower, real hot water and water pressure but we could only use the handheld as it seemed the turn valve for the rain head was at ceiling height or we could be wrong but didn't ask. Climate controlled, which really worked although we didn't always need it. We had been advised to use Uber/taxi to get down the hilly street to the main busy street below. There's a manned gate on the street to the hotel but I can't vouch for security. Fernanda stayed with my sister and me until the Uber arrived although I felt safe enough on the street. We took an Uber back after dinner and passed people walking so I felt over-cautioned but ok with it. Once on the main street in Santa Teresa there's so much going on, so many people, music, talking, spilling out of restaurants and bars that my lack of Portuguese language really felt like an impediment. I thought it was going to be a Continental breakfast when I saw coffee and breads on the breakfast area counter but someone from the kitchen was summoned and an amazing breakfast quickly appeared - cheesy eggs, fruit, sausage with beans, bread basket of croissants and real coffee cups.

DenmarkSome of the facilities and services needs improvement - eg. the floor in our bathroom was broken. The coffee machine was missing in our room. The pool bar was closed down and the pool was dirty.
Nice house with old and modern sections and a nice view over parts of Rio Centro. Large rooms with good air conditioning. The served breakfast was good. The girl in the reception was nice and helpful.

SwitzerlandBreakfast choice was perhaps a bit limited, but quality wise it was good.
Probably the best hotel room I have ever had, surely the biggest. Not extremely luxurious but very well decorated in a minimalist style which fits perfectly with the house and the surroundings. Excellent pool with view over the centre of Rio and even the sugar loaf. Friendly and helpful staff, albeit communication was somewhat difficult at times (but this is a general issue in Brazil where knowledge of English or any other foreign language is limited), but nothing impossible to overcome. Google traslate came in handy. Stunningly well priced for what we received.

United KingdomNo-one on reception in the evening or early morning made check-out difficult.
Secluded area in Santa Teresa but easy access to carnival 'bolo' nearby, friendly bars, and safe to walk down to Gloria. Beautiful historic castellated building with new additions which were very spacious, great views over the city.

AustraliaThe only thing I found that was even remotely negative was that the lighting in the room was a little dull, but this was easily improved by opening the shutters to allow natural light.
I 100% recommend staying at this beautiful hotel! The location was on a quiet street, just a short (300m) walk to restaurants etc. The hotel felt very safe and secure. We staying in the 'Gloria' Queen room and it had a lovely view over the garden and city. The room itself was well appointed, modern, comfortable and clean. The room size was perfect for a multiple night stay. I found the breakfast excellent, with a choice of cold options available (yoghurt, bread, pastries, fruit, cheese etc) . You could also ask for scrambled eggs. The host was lovely and so helpful, even with the language barrier. She allowed us to store our bags for a few hours, and also use the pool area after check-out as we had a late flight that evening.

United StatesThe pictures don’t do the property and it’s view justice lol
The customer service was SUPERB! Christina was amazing! We are Americans and don’t speak a lick of Portuguese and although her English wasn’t strong either, (but it’s 2023 and phones and google exist) so that wasn’t a problem AT ALL. She made sure we comfortable and had fun. She checked on us regularly. The location is safe and is in walking distance of great food, bars and shopping. I kinda didn’t want to do a review because I wanted to keep this hidden gem to myself, but Chris deserves all the raving reviews she can get. Thank you so much for making our Rio experience so amazing!

Despite my lack of proficiency in Portuguese, Chris proved to be exceedingly helpful, courteous, and displayed a high level of professionalism. I wholeheartedly recommend this establishment.

BrazilThere were three of us, but we were given only one key. Since the door operates electronically, it would have been helpful if they could provide us with the password (considering we were sharing the key).
The hotel offers an incredible view, and the breakfast is good. However, what truly sets this hotel apart is its exceptional staff. They are incredibly friendly and go above and beyond to make your stay enjoyable. I would definitely return.

GermanyDealing with the management of this hotel has been the most unprofessional approach I have ever experienced. Due to some issues we had during our stay we were offered by the hotel a refund of 1 night and an apology. There had been some hotel guests and their visitors partying playing loud music all day by the pool. It was a hostile environment and we just wanted to relax. I had no idea that this was a party hotel - It is advertised as a relaxing oasis in the city. I gladly accepted the refund and the apology. However, after 4 weeks, multiple conversations and complaints the refund has not been issued. Apparently this is due to me not having a Brazilian bank account or being able to accept BR currency. I have offered plenty of payment alternatives to the hotel. I am now being ignored by the hotel. No answers to my messages and still no refund. I guess from their silence I won’t be getting one.

RomaniaThey did't cleaned the room, two days on a row I did it myself. After that, i told them, and they cleaned it every day. Poor breakfast - one type of ham, one type of cheese, one type of yoghurt, coffee, croissants, and fruits. All of them repeatedly every day. No vegetables. Maybe it would've been fine if we had stayed 2 days, but five days was very boring. Broken shower
Very beautiful building, wonderfully conserved, big rooms, quiet neighbourhood, parking space in front of the house, very attentive staff. Big bed, comfortable pillow
