Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomNone of these are big things but if addressed the stay could have been even better: - If it’s a double bed, please provide a double mattress, 2 single mattresses is a bit uncomfortable. - The room was quite loud. Now, with the room facing a famously busy road and beach, this wasn’t a surprise, but some sound proofing measures such as double glazing and ensuring the window could close properly would help some. - Cleanliness - overall cleanliness of the bathroom and bedrooms were good, but the floor should have been swept or vacuumed between guests at least.
Excellent location, view onto Copacabana was amazing, friendly staff and well-designed rooms - felt very at home.

GermanyIt is Rio, so you have to take care.
A nice place near Copacabana. You can feel quite safe there, but only without showing gold, diamonds and richness, or you need your body guard. The beach is beautiful, the place calm and there is a nice Samba-Band-bar and a Pizzaria just on the other side of the street. A great place to spend more than just 2 nights! :-)

FinlandNo locked lockers in the dormitories. The cabinet above the bed was a bit weirdly placed. I kept on hitting my leg to it while I was sleeping.
Staff was super friendly. Also there was plenty of activities to attend if you'd like to plus the whatsapp group chat was super helpful.

Costa RicaI think the shared bathroom could be a bit cleaner, but it wasn’t unpleasant, it was manageable. My only issue was with the Copa restaurant staff. I felt like because of being a tourist (latinamerican) I was often left ignored or last, I ate here 3 times. In fact I was sad about my last experience there. I went to have breakfast at Copa and ordered at the same time as the table next to me (4 Brazilians) and they got the same food (eggs and açaí bowl) within 10 minutes. Another table of 4 that came after also got served. I had explained to the server that I was headed to the airport and would place my entire order at once to make it easier/faster for us, but after 30 min I had not been served even my coffee or juice. I had two servers asked if I had ordered already as they saw me sitting there empty table and I said “yes a long time ago”, but no one did anything. When I enquired again and explained my ride will come soon as I can’t wait much longer, the server was rude and said you have only been waiting 30 min (more like 40 at that point). I said yes but then why did other bigger tables get their food within 10-15 min? I waited another 10 min and had to rush out to catch my ride to the airport on an empty stomach after nearly an hour. My order never in sight, not even the coffee or orange juice. I felt a bit discriminated against.
I upgraded to a single and the view from my room out to the Copacabana beach was just spectacular. The front desk team was super helpful and friendly. I did a quick check-in since I was late for a tour upon arrival, and got everything settled so fast. The bed was just so comfy and the room set up was perfect. Having AC is a blessing. The shared bathroom was always available for use. It wasn’t noisy or messy. Again, the LOCATION is perfect, just cross the street to Post 5.

United KingdomThe hostel has zero communal areas to meet people/relax. The hostel states that it has a bar but it’s a separately run restaurant/bar on the top floor. This isn’t a shared space for traveler’s to meet it’s a fancy bar that is actually quite expensive. Other than the kitchen & cinema room there is nowhere for guest to meet each other or spaces to relax. This place feels like a hotel. The shared bathroom wasn’t clean on arrival and didn’t get cleaned very often. When you asked for the room to be cleaned it took all day. Sometimes we’d return and the room was the same as when we left. The double room was very small. You couldn’t open the draws in the room as the storage unit was so close to the bed. Made it hard to get ready.
The location is great. Right on the beach. Modern stylish furnishings. WhatsApp group. Good WiFi. Safe place to return to. Breakfast was great. Staff were available 24/7.

AustraliaThe worst part was the breakfast - very bad as many others have mentioned, I had to not eat it in the end. Also, it isn’t an overly social place with almost no spaces to just be, only the kitchen and cinema room.
I stayed for a few weeks in a private room with shared bathroom, overall I had a great stay and would recommend. I also liked the rooftop bar/ restaurant (only went in the evening). During Carnaval it was very expensive for a hostel, but everywhere was.

United StatesSelinas are always on the more expensive side, but as such, that wasn't a surprise. The big issue, and I spoke with several who had the same complaint, is that there is no common area to hang out in. It's either the crowded lobby full of people checking in, or two wooden chairs in the hallway. The rooftop bar is an independent RESTAURANT/BAR and not a place you can go to just relax, look at a TV, play a game, or meet people. It wasn't always open, and often empty because they essentially take a reservation just to go inside. "What's your name, room number, and how many people are coming?" It's not very social at all. Without the WhatsApp group, it would be impossible to meet people here.
Location is great. Tons of people there for the same general reasons, and the staff does a great job with activities and information through WhatsApp.

United StatesThe place feels kinda chaotic. Check in was a mess (despite being prompted to download the Selina app and fill out a form in advance, supposedly to save time). It took forever, I had to fill out the same form I had already filled online, and room was not even ready at 3pm like it's supposed to (the team eventually gave me another room). I booked a massage through the front desk but the therapist never showed up. When I inquired the front desk said that there was actually no therapist for the day (not sure why they didn't simply mention it when I booked it). Windows are extremely thin so I could hear a lot of noise from the street, despite being on the 5th floor.
Staff was super nice and friendly. I loved the retro look of the place. They have a Whatsapp group for the guests so it's easy to meet people if you're traveling on your own. A short walk away from the beach.
