Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomBest thing about this hostel is the staff. They all work hard and are super friendly to the guests. Breakfast and the evening meal were very good. The effort made to entertain guests with yoga and other daily activities was much appreciated 👍

BrazilOne of my favourite hostels ever, I wanted to stay for three nights but ended up staying for two weeks. The volunteers are amazing and really put thought and effort into the activities and the meals. The atmosphere was super open and positive and I met a bunch of great people there. Amazing hostel, not just for the R$5 caipirinhas.

BrazilThe kitchen could do with a cleaning. The bottom of the glass cabinet was black with dirt. I found living insects in multiple pans. Also the freezer was dirty. You had to be fast some mornings to have good breakfast. Sometimes you did not get full with the dinner.
The atmosphere is incredible. I will definitely come back. Loved the daily activities. People were very social. When I got sick the day I was leaving the hostel, sweet Nicolas went with me to the hospital. So incredible nice staff. Loved it.

Germanynothing - close to perfection
Probably one of the best - and most unusual - hostels I`ve ever stayed in. Many things about this hostel are special - the location (coastal forest), the vibe, the staff, the things on offer (Yoga class, Salsa lessons...). Staff was very helpful, the food (breakfast and diner) was really good and the location is within walking distance from the beach. Even though, it is so cozy that you just want to stay ;-) However, there is one thing that you should be aware of: as the hostel is in a forest, there are lots of moskitos - so be prepared and bring repellent.

The staff was extremely nice and helpful. The common dinner was a great opportunity to meet people and it was always delicious.

PortugalIt’t hard to describe with words how this place makes you feel. It is not only the best hostel you can possibly find in the world, but also a place you can call home, with people you called family. You just feel happy all the time. The dinner is always prepared with so much care, you feel involved in the community, there are yoga classes and football matches and so much entertainment, you almost feel you don’t need to visit anything. I was remote working in the hostel for a few days and the conditions are great, you have a coworking space, good internet and privacy if needed. Afi, the owner, will guarantee you have everything you need so that it works out the best way for you. Everyone should come to this hostel one day, you’ll be amazed how this place can change you. I will definitely be back one day. Wish you all the best

SpainIt has a somewhat unpleasant amount of mosquitoes but that's a side effect of being surrounded by nature
The people working there are the best. They keep the good ambience with their attitude and the activities they set up for guests and they prepare the best meals.

SpainI spent two amazing weeks at Lagarto na Banana, and the place couldn't be better. The owner Afi is a great person who is always caring about his guest. They do activities and yoga classes every day to make sure we feel as we were at home.. The atmosphere there is magical, you feel happy all the time, everybody is so kind and funny especially the volunteers, who prepares dinner for us with so much love that i can't explain with words. I just feel gratitude for being part of that family for a while. I wish you the best and I'll be back one day. 100% recommended.

United StatesThere is nothing I didn’t like about the hostel, but if you aren’t more into a camping style kind of hostel this place may not be for you.
Honestly the best hostel I’ve ever stayed at in my life! there are no words to describe the way I’ve transformed since being here & spending time with everyone at Lagarto. This is unlike your normal hostel, it is so much more & it has become an incredibly spiritual place for me that feels like home. I have been here for over 2.5 months & the thought of leaving makes me so sad. You will find a second family here! I truly can’t recommend staying here enough!

FranceThe bedrooms could be a bit cleaner, a lot of humidity could be taken out by improving the water evacuation from the bathroom :)
Lagarto is the most special hostel I have ever been to. The staff is fully involved, always happy to help and propose any kind of activities. The diner every night is cheap, good, and the atmosphere is incredible. Every day there is one activity, from football to communication exercices, from drinking games to culture sharing. I have made some amazing friends and it is all thanks to the hostal atmosphere and staff! Ideal for travelers who want to make friends, party, surf, yoga, chill.

Lagarto is a hostel that once you enter, it immediately becomes a warm and loving home. The hostel is located in the forest, which gives it a unique character and an opportunity to connect with nature. It has everything you will need for a vacation or a long stay (recommended). The nicest staff I have met, always making sure everything is fine and the atmosphere is good. At the hostel you have all the options to stop the intense life and concentrate on yourself and a new community, whether in learning to go on a slake line or in evening activities. Every morning opens with a yoga class and immediately followed by an amazing breakfast. Recommends everyone to come visit and become part of the family :)

BrazilThe worst is the access as long as it takes some time on foot to be in center town. And driving is not that good too cause the street is so narrow and with bad paviment.
The energy of people makes the real value of this place! If you are not that connected to things and want to focus on the experience of being in a multicultural environment this is the place to go! I'd love be more time and I hope be back soon!

Great vibes, simple accomodation but creative. Great service from the staff, daily activities and community dinner with every day 40-60 people. A great social hostel perfect for real backpackers or other social travellers. They really made sure I was comfortable as possible. The volunteers are also a great addition to the hostel❤ and what about the monkeys who pick up a banana every morning. My god!
