Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

AustraliaThe location is far out of town but the place offers free shuttles daily to the supermarket and ATM. The dogs (not the ones living at Elephant Trail but stray dogs outside) are super loud during the night. This is of course out of managements control but just bring earplugs and you’ll be alright.
We loved our stay at Elephant Trail. The staff were amazing and very attentive. We stayed in one of the tents and it was spacious enough for two people. It got really cold during the nights but the place offered thick extra blankets, which really helped. The family dinner at night was really tasty and they made sure to cook me vegan food, which was much appreciated. The family dinners are also a great way to meet other travellers. The dogs living on the premises are adorable!

New ZealandI was in the dorm, going down the uneven stairs and outside to the bathroom in the night is a lot when you're half asleep, also no mosquito nets or privacy in the dorm
There's a big kitchen with plenty of space, garden spaces to hang out it, friendly people. I got their shuttle from Vic falls to the hostel which was great and was able to get a ride to the supermarket when the driver was dropping people off at their river trip.

SpainIf I need to find some cont, I would say that the dinner and lunch were not the best and the pool could be a bit cleaner. Again, given the price, I think the deal is great.
This hotel is great. They offer a unique value for money in Kasane. It is geared towards young people and has very good vibes. Do not expect luxury but for what you pay, you get great facilities and wonderful staff.

GermanyThe location is a challenge, unless you have a car or come by shuttle. A water tank could be supplied. Communication between staff was not always working, so make sure to follow-up on special requests.
Nice backpackers lodge for booking safaris into Chobe, much better pricing than from Vic Falls. It is definitely worth coming here to spend 2 nights. You can book home-made meals. They have two dogs and a cat.

BulgariaIt would be good to renew the air conditioners because they are a bit old and some of their fins are broken. It would also be good to put a mosquito net on the bathroom window
Elephant Trail Guesthouse and Backpackers is well located, the place is very pleasant with its garden with greenery and shade, swimming pool, place to eat and relax. Special thanks to all the staff people who are very friendly, kind, helpful and answered all our requests and wishes in the best possible way. They do everything possible to make guests feel good and comfortable!

Botswana1. The heat from my tent was unbearable during the day. I was not prepared for that, but the shade from the trees and the pool made the situation better (i brought my outdoor blanket and mattress and they helped). 2. The stoves are too slow, Have 1 large stove which cooks fast and saves time. 3. Braai place did not have ashes or wood. As a visitor it is not easy to get the wood for braai. So you can supply them at a fee.
1. Bathrooms were very clean. They are situated at a place which makes it comfortable for one to use the toilet or take a bath easily. 2. My tent was far from noise and I liked it. The location of the place (elephant trail) is also suitable for people who work on computers late at night as it is quiet and safe.

JapanThings move at a slow pace here (the room wasn’t available until an hour after the official check-in time, it’s sometimes hard to find a staff member), so if you value efficiency and punctuality, this may not be the best choice.
The room is extremely good value (the shower was the best of our trip), and it’s very well located for Chobe national park. We organised a very good trip at reception. There is a relaxed, pleasant atmosphere around the property.

United KingdomThey got confused about how many nights I had booked but it was soon sorted out.
Very affordable and an excellent place to meet other solo travellers. The rooms were characterful and private whilst the communal area was perfect for dining and chatting. The game drives and river cruises available were all you could want and great value for money.

BotswanaThe room is small so I understand their challenges with ventilation. I don't know how better that can be addressed putting into consideration the dreaded mosquitoes.
We only had dinner on the 2nd day and it was very well prepared and presented. Nothing we expected. Its a secluded place in a good way, we got the number for the taxi driver who took us there and he was very helpful and reliable.

But of course there are the shared amd regular taxis and they are not expensove. I would suggest having more veriaty on the food they serve, specially for budget travelers.
