Prime location. I could walk anywhere. The owner and staff were super helpful. They got me set up with a golf cart rental so that I could go to Secret Beach. Perfect for a solo traveler on a budget

There is some residual noise from Wayo’s - most nights it is barely audible but occasionally they have a band playing.

A pocket of awesomeness on Earth I wanted a cabana on the beach and that is exactly what I got. A place to stay for 4 weeks , in a home from home environment and it was utter bliss . No five star needed . A Cabana, with air con, a bed , a shower , and a fridge . It is the only way to stay , in a place like Ambergris . Socialising like a local, hitching lifts in go carts , walking along the beach to restaurants , It was an amazing 4 week stay made all the better by Christina ( who runs the hotel ) and her trusted Assistant Grisella . Christina was a source of valuable information , having lived here for many years and nothing was too much trouble for her . She was an outstanding hostess who became a friend . There is a daily cleaning service, change of towels , a laundry service , on site cafe providing americanos and juice . If he started making pizza’s it would be a winner ! There is a security guard from around 7-12 am every night . Christina makes sure security lets her know is anyone doesn’t come home . I thought this was fab as a solo traveller . Really reassuring to know that someone had my back. Hotel de Rio is located just north of the town . it is utterly charming , a place of tranquility and peace . Opposite tranquil waters and some of the best swimming locally , I really could ask for nothing more . Like most of the beach , the beaches throughout AC have a problem with some form of harmless weed . There is an effort across the island to clean it up but it is fairly impossible . Therefore the best swimming is usually off a deck such as Hurricanes . There is also deck opposite the hotel - with steps leading into the sea and this is lovely ( and avoids the seaweed). In terms of restaurants and shops - see my TA review but it is no more than a 12 minute walk along the beach into the main town where there are plenty of restaurants and banks ! Nothing to say here, everything was perfect. Just that it gets quite loud in the evenings cause Wayo’s is really close, but earplugs do the trick :)

Beautiful and relaxing environment, Christine is a wonderful host. I don’t think I ever stayed in such a warm and welcoming place. Not only our room was upgraded, but also she let us do the late check out free of charge. She is always available to give advices about what to do on the island, recommend places to eat, anything you need. Also, awesome hammocks!

We had a great time. The owner was super super nice. Accommodated all our needs including late check out for free so we can enjoy the beach until our ferry leaves. I highly recommend this place for a great San Pedro vacation.

Everything!!! The staff are so helpful, friendly and will go out of the way to give you all the information you need and make your stay comfortable. Its just such a fabulous atmosphere :) The breakfast food from the cafe is all homemade, great value for money and delicious.

Sometimes it can be loud at night because it’s next to local bars so if that’s not your thing you may want to go further out.

Tight room & bathroom. No hot water in shower. A bit dated. Be careful of what you leave on deck/outside as it may get lost/taken. I lost a pair of nice Ecco sandals during my stay.

Good location, near the water, bakery & grocery shops. Not near a swimming area. The cottages have nice deck with sea view. Helpful friendly staff. Free water provided. Small coffee shop on site.

Entire place was really nice, has a chill vibe, always well-tended. Hotel staff are super nice and helpful, always made sure I had what I needed, and offers good recommendations for activities and places to see and eat. Location was also great, next door to Wayo's and has an on-site coffee shop that has great service, a good selection of coffee and pastries for a light breakfast. The room has just enough space, towels are always fresh, has enough toiletries for guests. I really like the small sitting area outside my room where I can just chillout and watch movies while checking out what goes around. They also have a cool cabana and lounge chairs for other guests to sit outside. I love the big umbrella tree at the entrance of Hotel Del Rio, which gives it a little bit of a homey feel. It is also pet friendly so a couple of neighbourhood dogs can come visit and play with guests.

The accommodations are modest, but clean, comfortable with everything you need. My room had a joint balcony and windows with the sound of the ocean and a nice breeze. The staff were friendly and so helpful with tips for my 24 hour stay. The location was outstanding - directly across from the water, quick walks to fine restaurants, friendly and fun bars, and the most extraordinary coffee/breakfast shop. Cool Beans sits on a pier with pelicans posing on pilons, and the views are outdone by the great coffee and wonderful food.

Only negative and again not reflective of the hotel but a local bar had loud music every night.

Cabana style cabins with lots of room for our family of four and close to the beach and all the restaurants and bars in Bica del Rio. The Mr. Jim, Chris and staff and everyone were ultra friendly and welcoming, it felt like being part of a close knit community . Rooms were kept clean and we had beautiful flowers and a personal note for our arrival! I’d stay here again!!!

Everyone was super welcoming and friendly. The staff helped me arrange a surprise cake and balloons for my mother’s birthday and also helped us book a great snorkelling tour. A million thanks for all the help!

There’s a local bar across the street that has music until midnight- good to be know prior to coming if you have little children that may need to sleep earlier or have problems sleeping with noise.

Everyone was very nice and went out of their way to accommodate our needs especially Christine, Griselda, and the security team. They even helped book our day trips, recommended restaurants and other must see places. The entire staff was truly kind and caring.
