Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.

MalaysiaA FAKE PLACE WITH FAKE DESCRIPTIONS IN SOMEBODY'S HOUSE
They promote to be a hostel, but it is literally located in a residential area, and they are renting out their rooms instead. The room has no attached bathroom, and the door to the hall area cant be locked, meaning you can just have someone walk into your shower. Fully FAKE DESCRIPTION, and we did not stay there, yet property refused to pay us back a single cent. I've been travelling for 10 years, never once encountered a FAKE PLACE IN SOMEBODY'S HOUSE CLAIMING TO BE A HOSTEL.

CanadaI went to the house with my daugthers, went stair front year, it's really bad the conditions of the stair, the porch, the door, the garden. It like without any maintenance in last ten years. The whole house gives off a strange smell, like rotten wood. We knocked the door, no answer. Called the number, and found there was a mobile phone on a chair in the porch. We followed the instruction and went into the house by side door, took a look in the kitchen, there is a similar strange smell make you feel disgusting. Then went upstair to the 2nd floor, there is a very small hall with 4 rooms. no light from outside, there is hint which room belong to me, no response by knocking the door. The house is so old and quite, all things press you in a deep and dark water, very depressed. My daughters could not stay any one minutes more. I found the reservation email and clicked the cancellation, and left the house right away. This is the worst experience I had in Canada in the past 10 years. I knew there is fee when cancelling the reservation, but till now I did not get any refund. Booking told me they did not get response from BALCON BLANC. Then I contacted Balcon Blanc, they gave me the answer: Please note that in order to cancel your reservation, you will need to go through Booking.com, unfortunatly, we can't do anything beacause you booked with booking. I strongly do not recommend this place。

FranceThose comments are for the apartment that can welcome up to 6 people. 1. Extra bed (= better quality but no longer a sleeping couch as shown on the picture) in the living room not usable: the mattress was so new that it had a strong chemical smell. It was not aerated at all, the cleaning lady was not even aware of this new bed. No instructions available on how to install it. One adult had to sleep on a normal couch for 2 nights due to this. The owners also said that no other rooms were available but I found 2 extra rooms on booking.com for our 2nd night. The solution given by the owners was to send a cleaning lady on our 2nd day to "wash" the mattress, which she didn't do as not possible and the mattress was aerated outside for the whole day (not sufficient). 2. Customer services from the owners were very poor: not reachable (we called at our arrival at 17h45 to ask where is the extra bed, they called back at 20h45), not reactif (we explained that it was not possible to sleep on the mattress due to the smell at 21h30 and they answered the next day at 7h30), no excuses given for the bed problem. At the end of our stay, they considered that everything went well and that they provided good services. 3. Apartment not suitable for more than 4 people - only 4 chairs inside, not enough cutlery. 4. The owners came during our stay to make some construction works in the apartment. 5. 2 lamps were not working, panel to cover cables located high up in a bedroom fell on us when we tried to put it properly.
The location was close to the city center. The apartment was nice and the 2 bedrooms are spacious.

CanadaAs I arrived quite late in the evening, it was a bit difficult to identify which home was the hotel. Not many street lights and there weren't any large or eye-catching signs. I also found it difficult to figure out which door to enter to access the hotel rather than the private residence. Additionally, the private residence was unlocked, which caused more confusion as I thought I was in the correct part of the building (but was not!). Other than that, everything was wonderful!
This little place was a hidden gem I am so glad to have discovered in Chicoutimi. After some unfortunate events, I found myself alone in the city without a place to sleep for the night. I was searching for a room available nearby when I came across this quaint and inexpensive advert! When I arrived, it was pretty straight forward and I was able to find my room fairly quickly. The photos do not lie; this place is absolutely adorable, clean, and incredibly well-decorated. I was so impressed by the Balcon Blanc for charging such a reasonable and fair price, for a room and private bathroom which exceeds most chain hotel standards. Absolutely loved my stay and hope to be back soon! Merci Anyssée et Simon :)

Canadajust a curtain for the tiny bathroom and I didn’t find out there was no parking on the property in winter until the day before plus you can’t park on the street or you’ll get a ticket……when I rented I didn’t see this written anywhere. had to park at the church down the hill across the road so anyone that has physical challenges might find it hard to do with luggages as it’s steep and slippery in winter.
