Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

LatviaToilet and bathroom are downstairs and it’s very inconvenient. I felt bed curtains would make my stay more comfortable. Towels are not included as you have to pay $2.
Very good location, main street in old town. All bars and restaurants are at this street.

United StatesWhile the block of rooms I was in had a lock and access code, the individual room did not. So had anyone from the neighboring (mixed-gender) rooms wanted to come into my (all-female) room, they could have.
The location was great, the lounge was comfy, and they had coffee available in the morning. The bathrooms were clean and usually available. The staff were helpful and gave reminders to take the sheets off the bed, etc.

AustraliaIt’s too expensive for a 10 bed dorm and the lockers were almost too small for my small backpack, however it felt relatively safe. Also, it would be better if the beds had little privacy curtains though I tucked my sheet into the bed above to create a curtain.
Fantastic location, very cosy, cabin-like vibe, felt safe and attracted nice, mature and respectful travellers, comfortable bed, great little communal space and kitchen, perfect bathroom/ shower/ washing machine facilities, nice enough staff 🙂

Amazing location. The rooms and bathrooms were very clean, bed linen and covers were also very clean. The bed was comfortable. We joined a group for drinks, hosted by one of the hostel managers, in the next door bar and had a great time!

IranThe bed that I was given was close to ceiling which is totally fine but there was a big part of the ceiling that each time I try to sit I hit my head to it and it hurt so badly. I still have headache. I couldn't sit straight as it was in the middle of my bed. I was in room 308 BTW. But other than that everything was perfect
The location was amazing, the hostel itself was very clean and the staff were friendly.

TurkeyOther than main staff cleaning and some other positions were workawayers of course it is not bad but cleaning is not good enough. Security is one of the worst thing. There is no key for rooms so whoever want s to come to your room anytime. That is why someone stole my airpods. That is some stranger will sleep in couch or people from other rooms can come and sleep in your room if they are unhappy in their own room. I travelled many different countries and states hostels before but this one one of the worst in somr points.
Local staff and of course location is amazing but they are not enough. Overall this hostel is not good enough. I stayed there very long time than I expected and avarage stays for a hostel, it is aroud 21 days. Location is amazing, really, it is center of old town and easy to go anywhere in Montreal.

United StatesBeds were not comfortable, but definitely still worth the price. If you're someone that really needs a comfortable bed/pillow, bring your own pillow or blankets because they ones they provide are very small and light. This did not at all detract from my experience though, and I was able to sleep well and fairly comfortably. I definitely still recommend this place!
Our stay was overall great! Extremely easy check in and arrival with staff available 24/7. Great location in Old Montreal with easy walkable access to the rest of Old Montreal and downtown. Very very good price for the area. The hostel boasted plenty of facilities such as a fully equipped kitchen, laundry room, plenty of showers, and bathrooms, all of which were clean and organized. Quiet hours starting at 11:30 which was very reasonable. The bedrooms had plenty of people in them but plenty of space, they definitely didn't feel too crowded. Everyone was very friendly. Overall, it was extremely nice and even still came at a very very low price. I would highly recommend.

Canadashowers in small space not adjustable; procedure for entrance (only able to enter with a code after registering) which caused a problem for a person waiting for a food order and for me arriving from the other Alt Hostel. Would still like to know how the person fell on the stairs and hit his head.

CanadaBed was quite comfortable, but could feel when bunkmate shifted position. I did sleep soundly with my earplugs, though!
Super location & staff! Close to cafés, restaurants and nightlife, if that's what you like. Clean, comfortable and quiet (despite the nightclub in the basement on the Friday night, it was quiet in my dorm room on the upper floor). Good kitchen facilities, free coffee and cooking basics. Great showers! There are 2 Alt hostels almost side-by-side where I stayed across from Marché Bonsecours; a 3rd one on St-Pierre, about a 15min walk west. Complimentary Halloween dinner was fun, got to meet several interesting people, Greg was a great host! Neighbourhood street parking was free 9pm-9am, but shortens to 11pm-8am on Nov 16, and pay VERY careful attention to signs with exclusion periods, you may need to check more than 1 signpost. Bring your towel, and a light blanket if you need one (or use your towel). Would definitely stay again!
