Our room was in need on some upgrades but I know these renovations were in the plans.

Matt and his family were great hosts. Our room was pleasant but some needed renovations were in the plans. Our favourite part of our stay was the very tasty food at the pub prepared by chef Colleen and breakfast room service delivered by Matt's daughter Brigette. This is a real family business and each member has a vested interest in the quality, so it's all very well done! We hope to return again.

This was our last night in Cape Breton and it couldn't have ended on a better note. The staff were welcoming, the rooms were clean and quiet. It was obvious that the owners took pride in their establishment. It was so convenient for us that we could just pop over to the pub for a meal complete with live music. The meal was by far the best I had while visiting the area. I regret not having the opportunity to personally give this review to the owners before we left. After working in tourism for many years I am aware that often it is only the negative that people remember and take with them but honestly I have only positive things to say about this place.I would highly recommend Groundswell Pub and Inn and look forward to going back.

The room needs some maintenance. The hot water flow in sink was a mere trickle.

The pub, the food, the host, the location. Isle Madame is one fabulous island to visit…scenery that rivals much of the world tourists race to see.

We had no hot water after 9:00 am. There was no curtain on the bathroom window which was a bit tricky. The second morning we stayed was quite noisy as the staff prepared for the evening festivities. The TV had no signal and the WIFI was non existent. There was a strong smell of sewage when on the restaurant patio so we moved inside. We rented a kayak which immediately filled with 2” of water at the back so I was wet the entire time out, no discount was offered.

The room was a great size and the beds were comfortable. The room was nicely decorated. The pub food was tasty but a overpriced, for the portion sizes.

Unfortunately it was raining when we arrived and raining when we left the next day so we did not have a chance to explore or walk on the beach. Our room was cosy. We loved our evening meal. We had the place to ourselves as the pub was closed for other than guests that night. The food was very good. We had breakfast in the room, which was very good. We had a knock on our door: Room Service! Opened the door and saw Matt with his two young daughters. They were very sweet and it made our day.

Perhaps a tea/coffee machine or kettle in or close to the room would have been nice.

The Groundswell Pub and Inn was a wonderful place to stay. Clean, comfortable, great beds, great shower, really good food in the pub (far superior to most pub offerings). It was a place where locals and visitors are made to feel welcome. The owners and staff were switched-on and friendly. I was impressed with how hard they worked and how well they listened and accommodated out-of-the-ordinary requests. I would highly recommend The Groundswell. / Two add-ones: the large deck attached to the pub with a waterfront view was lovely. The huge lawn stretching right down to the water would be a great place for children to play.

Honestly everything was fabulous. The only feedback I could possibly give is that the water softener could be changed? The water is definitely soft, but it does leave an extra soft residue until you dry off. But honestly this place is phenomenal!!

Absolutely everything about this location! The Pub atmosphere was phenomenal, the food was fantastic! I absolutely loved our room and it was my first time staying at a Pub & Inn. Matt was incredibly helpful throughout our stay, and Colleen is an amazing Chef!

There's nothing I didn't like.

I can't say enough about how great The Groundswell is. Matt, our host, made us feel right at home the minute we arrived, and he called me by name. The pub is charming, the food delicious, and there are several craft beers on tap. Our rooms were lovely and our beds extremely comfortable. One thing that amazed me was that for an older looking pub (though charming looking), everything from the bedspreads to the sinks looked new and was sparkling clean. Best of all, though, was the setting, the owners' hospitality, and the amazing quiet of our surroundings. I'd be quite happy staying a week.

I’m only sorry that the current shortage of labor has hindered some of the community events they like to host. It wouldn’t have affected us, however.

We booked this one-night reservation on short notice and were delighted! The owners are a talented young couple with great vision and what seems to be boundless energy and creativity. Our room was beautifully furnished and decorated with a keen eye for good design and aesthetics, right down to the breakfast tray! Great hospitality and a lovely restaurant, which is clearly a community hub.

The owners went above and beyond with making food available, despite there being a private function. Upbeat and friendly, despite dealing with the shortage of help that’s rife in the industry now. Wish we could’ve been there on a night that the pub was open properly.
