How guest reviews work
Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
- Politically sensitive comments
- Promotional content
- Illegal activities
- Personal or sensitive information (e.g. emails, phone numbers or credit card info)
- Swear words, sexual references, hate speech, discriminatory remarks, threats, or references to violence
- Spam and fake content
- Animal cruelty
- Impersonation (e.g. if the writer is claiming to be someone else)
- Any violation of our review guidelines.
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
Guidelines and standards for Reviews

Room was quite small, but mostly walls were thin and we could hear neighbor's TV, and partiers 4 floors down. Not able to sleep well.
Food & Beverage...excellent. Love the atmosphere of The Library. Historical hotel, pretty cool. Guest services provided a special treat for our anniversary. Very thoughtful.

The room was slightly cramped but not a real impediment to our enjoyment of it.
Breakfast was excellent with wide good choices. The room was well-equipped but a little cramped. Bathroom attractive, modern and well appointed. Staff were helpful and efficient. On street parking was not a problem. Hotel is easy to find and central close to other amenities.

Absolutely nothing!
Renovations were kept true to the age of the property so the history shone through. The room was absolutely lovely with all the mod cons. The Library Lounge was stunning with delicious food and as well, all, as in every one of the staff we spoke with were wonderful. In close proximity to shops, restaurants and walking the town to see the beautiful old brick buildings. It is a lovely property.

We loved the spaciousness of the premium room, The 1898. It allowed my friend and I to have a little privacy in the evenings. The bedding was premium though the bed was a tad soft for my liking. We enjoyed soothing pedicures in the spa and delicious, deluxe breakfasts each morning, which were included. We enjoyed a yummy dinner in The Library restaurant. The architecture of the building is amazing and they have done an excellent job of preserving the heritage while offering comfort and style.

Music from bar beneath rooms on third floor is really loud. Hard for a family to sleep. Music doesn’t stop until 12:30am :(

Confusion about nightly room rate with addition of conversion from US to Canadian dollar. Despite finding this excellent hotel via Booking.com was frustrating at end to feel bad about how we came to be at their hotel, can't book direct if don't know about hotel in first place.
Wonderful value related to breakfast included as can choose from several 'made to order' options in a restaurant setting. We found excellent food at all three in-house restaurants we spent time at.

Breakfast wasn’t as good as in the summertime. A bit too stodgy.

Nothing really at all.
It was such a beautiful hotel with the best ambience! Makes me want to never stay in a chain hotel again. Loved that they have maintained the character of the historical building that it is and how it takes you back to what it would have been like in the late 1800’s. It was also such a treat to enjoy a lovely dinner in the Library with the accompaniment of the wonderful jazz pianist and singer!

nothing comes to mind.
Small breakfast menu included with the price of the room, but it was very good. Classic old hotel building has been lovingly restored. Beer Gardens next door had great menu and live entertainment.

Very friendly! This hotel was more than we expected. The noise we warned about being over the lounge was nothing. We ate at the restaurant for 2 suppers and 2 breakfasts and had no complaints. Food was fantastic. The staff were all so amazing! Will always make this our goto when we visit.

Excellent breakfast, included with room/stay. Staff were very friendly and hospitality. The Library has a great ambiance, music and delicious food. Daily specials at breakfast and dinner were delectable!
