Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

CanadaWhat is there not to like? In all honesty, I am not a big fan of the common area/kitchen being closd from 23h00, but nothing stops guests from venturing outside and grabbing a snack or a drink (or two, or three...). P.S. Alcohol is tolerated but one must behave appropriately. In other words, nobody will object to a bottle of wine or a few beer cans but no partying or bad behaviour will be tolerated and may result in an ejection. This shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone as hostels usually have common areas and bedrooms. In a traditional hotel with single rooms, one has the privacy to pretty much do as they please provided nothing gets trashed nor neighbours get bothered or disturbed,
Perhaps the best feature of the hostel is its location. It is, to paraphrase Jimmy, one of the more experienced staff members, quite literally less than 10 minutes' walking distance to a bunch of cool and interesting places and events--north, south, east, and west. I cannot speak of rooms per se as I booked a dormitory bed, but for what it was, my experience was very good. Breakfast is included, which is another PLUS when your breakfast options are limited to fast food restaurants nearby. The only thing I would recommend is to ensure you have a sweater or light jacket in the non-summer months as the common area occasionally gets drafty for lack of an enclosed vestibule. Aside from that, Auberge du Plateau is an EXCELLENT value for any traveler, be they for pleasure, business, or foreign student on a budget.

CanadaThe common area was a bit draft for lack of a vesitbule. The physical location of the hostel is such that wind tends to concentrate in the downtown core. Aside from two ants I encountered in the hallway, the place was immaculately clean and the staff competent and very polite.
I liked the location, free breakfast, and staff. Granted, the "comfort" of a dormitory with bunkbeds was not a priority consideration, so my stay was well within expectations in that sense. Overall, it was a very good experience and I especially like the staff, honourable mention to Jimmy who was a solid host who proactively greeted guests and guided them accordingly.

SpainThe room is small for so many people with suitcases and backpacks. It had no heating or ventilation whatsoever. Although I understand that The Gite du Plateau Mont Royal is situated in an old house from the end of the 19th century., the place was in need of a refurb - everywhere smells quite damp, the walls are badly painted. The room was on the first floor, unfortunately without an elevator, for suitcases.
A few minutes walk takes you to the Sherbrooke metro station. On the orange line you can go to Mont Royal(one stop) or the old town (3 stops). I stayed two nights in a mixed shared room with 8 people, all of them very respectful, attentive, silent and charming. The room was clean and tidy. In the rest of the common areas, toilets, reception, kitchen, restaurant and others, the heating was appreciated and appreciated, given the low temperatures outside. The wifi works perfectly. There are enough toilets and showers for everyone. I never had to wait to get into them, they were right next to the room. The reception staff is very attentive, friendly and efficient, always ready to help with suggestions and directions. The kitchen has a microwave and several refrigerators, to store your own food. It remains open most of the day, to cook, drink coffee in a cosmopolitan and relaxed atmosphere. Very good musical selection always in the background. The filling and lavish free breakfast includes classic pancakes with maple syrup, toast, butter, jams, eggs, yogurt, coffee or tea. I will recommend staying here for a short stay.

CanadaShowers I felt could be a bit nicer. They were just ok.
Breakfast was fantastic! They make AMAZING pancakes!! At 10:30 they stop making them. There were eggs, yogurts, fresh oranges, lots of jams, good coffee, teas. Kitchen is great and very spacious with a huge table in the middle on which all the breakfast is served. There are 2 fridges and many FREE items that people leave behind for others to use and share with. Lots of big wooden tables with lots of sitting. Few big and comfy couches near the window, which are great for working or chilling. Huge beautiful window with a view on the street, there are plants around. This common space is very cosy. I am very impressed with it. They also give you a key from the Front Door as well as for your room. So it feels like coming home. Second Floor is very cute and cozy too with a beautiful decor.

MexicoI didn´t like the fact that the upper bunk did not had a rail so when you were sleeping you had to be carefull not to fall.
I liked that my stayed included breakfast and that the shared areas were pretty confortable and cozy. The location was pretty good as well, you could walk to old montreal without a problem, it is 25 minutes away, as well as the Museum of Fine Arts.

United StatesThere wasn't particularly anything bad at all. If you have been in a hostel before, you know what you're getting. I have never been. My expectations were high until I realized that this isn't a hotel. You get what you reserved for.
Location was amazing. The rooms were nice. Basic hostel type rooms. The staff were very friendly and quite helpful. I drove here from NYC and parking was not fun at all. One of the front desk persons, who was extremely helpful, guided me to the Grand Bibliotheque (Grand Library) underground parking. The price was INSANELY cheap. The hostel also has a nice place to hangout down stairs. Really loved the environment.

United KingdomSign on door or building didn’t say “Auberge du plateau” so we walked past initially. Curtains were flimsy and didn’t close fully, towels weren’t available at check in (but luckily were later), soap was not included which we weren’t aware of. Building very old and room looked better in photos.
Lovely staff, excellent tasting breakfast pancakes and good central location! Cleanliness was good.

CanadaIn our 8-bed/bunker room, there was this one guy whom was always stuck to his mattress, and it felt like he was there for centuries as the entire room stank beyond Pepe la Pue! To add to the stench, this dude was coughing and snoring like a donkey. Other than that, you’ld have to wear a gas mask and valiums; just joking! 🙈
Pretty much everything except one issue described below.

Czech RepublicThis was the first time in a hostel that I felt the bed was not big enough for me (I am 189 cm tall). And I would appreciate non-stop access to the kitchen.
