Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

United KingdomI loved the location was so central. The room itself is lovely and has everything you need to feel at home! Host was amazing, super responsive and happy to help! Got some great recommendations of places to eat and visit. Would highly recommend this place when visiting St John’s!

CanadaIt's right downtown so you can hear some street noise but nothing unexpected.
It was a beautiful room. The hosts have the whole 'check-in' process down to a tee. Code/key were ready when I arrived after midnight. Location is perfect.

CanadaEverything was great.
The house was very central and within walking distance to many restaurants and things to see and do. The room had everything we needed: comfortable bed; places to plug in our electronics; bathroom with amenities that included shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hairdryer, liquid hand soap; electric kettle; wine glasses and mugs; small fridge; chairs to read on overlooking a great view; plenty of hangers. You have access to a full kitchen if you want to prepare your own meal. They even had a book with suggestions of places to eat and drink.

CanadaThe floors were not level. The front door entrance needs improvement. The steps were constantly wet and the eve about the door was almost non existant resulting in a torrent of water at the entrance. We stayed 6 days and there was absolutley no house keeping. Contant with the managers of the property and were all over the phone. The owners/manager never contacted us for feed back or how our stay was going.

CanadaThe following did not bother us but this is a bit of a notice to others: The location is not directly accessible by car. You are either dropped off on the main road below and have to walk up a flight of outdoor steps or dropped off on an alley nearby and have to walk 50m to the front door. Regarding accessibility, for those with mobility issues this would not be a great place. The property has no ramps and the interior stairways are relatively steep and narrow. This is a heritage building and as such does not meet modern accessibility standards. There are no lifts.
The location and size of the room were really excellent. It's right in the middle of downtown and on a fairly busy road but there was no sound inside the room with the windows closed. Definitely within walking distance of all of downtown and much of the surrounding sights. The contactless check-in worked really well. The view of theharbour, when it wasn't foggy, was quite nice.

CanadaThis is a primo location to stay in when in St Johns. Very short walk to pubs!, downtown, harbour, restaurants. Cozy and acquaint we have no complaints. The room and bathroom were small but for the price and location, McKay Manor can't be beat. The owners were helpful with email questions. Would recommend highly.

CanadaWe were in The puffin room which was nice and big, but we’re not informed the bathroom was down the hall until just before check in. Plus the fan in the bathroom was inadequate for the shower as well when taking a shower and someone either flushed the toilet or used the water in another unit, there was no pressure. As well the sheets were really “pilled”, I hate pilled sheets
The location was great, the number of available units was good

CanadaThe lack of air conditioning was a little challenging. It was quite a warm day in September when we arrived and the room didn’t cool down with the fans. We understand that it may be difficult to change this. Prices are crazy right now and although we would always prefer thst ut was less, we found McKay Manor to be competitively priced.
The location, the uniqueness and the cleanliness. The washroom was updated. Within walking distance of the harbour, Water & George St. Restaurants and attractions. 😀

CanadaThe windows should Open at the top For security purposes and to catch a breeze. Put privacy film on the bottom of windows so curtains can be open in daylight. Put Kleenex Tissue in the room and bathmat on slippery bathroom floor. Towels don’t dry in the main floor bathroom due to poor air circulation. Our towels were quite wet on day 2🤷♀️

CanadaUnfortunately, our friends car was broken into in the parking garage, and it seemed like maybe not the safest street. There was garbage in the alley in front of the building.
The location was great because it was close to many things. The property manager was very helpful in providing a couple of extra folding chairs, tea towels and some loonies we could exchange with our toonies for the laundry.
