Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. Note that guests submit their subscores and their overall scores independently, so there’s no direct link between them.
You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.
Contributions should be travel related. The most helpful contributions are detailed and help others make better decisions. Please don’t include personal, political, ethical, or religious commentary. Promotional content will be removed and issues concerning Booking.com’s services should be routed to our Customer Service or Accommodation Service teams.
Contributions should be appropriate for a global audience. Please avoid using profanity or attempts to approximate profanity with creative spelling, in any language. Comments and media that include 'hate speech', discriminatory remarks, threats, sexually explicit remarks, violence, and the promotion of illegal activity are not permitted.
All content should be genuine and unique to the guest. Reviews are most valuable when they are original and unbiased. Your contribution should be yours. Booking.com property partners should not post on behalf of guests or offer incentives in exchange for reviews. Attempts to bring down the rating of a competitor by submitting a negative review will not be tolerated.
Respect the privacy of others. Booking.com will make an effort to obscure email addresses, telephone numbers, website addresses, social media accounts, and similar details.
The opinions expressed in contributions are those of Booking.com customers and properties and not of Booking.com. Booking.com does not accept responsibility or liability for any reviews or responses. Booking.com is a distributor (without any obligation to verify) and not a publisher of these comments and responses.
By default, reviews are sorted based on the date of the review and on additional criteria to display the most relevant reviews, including but not limited to: your language, reviews with text, and non-anonymous reviews. Additional sorting options may be available (by type of traveller, by score, etc.).

CanadaAlthough the surroundings are very nice, UBC is really located a long distance from anything else in town. The bus stop is about a 5-10 minute walk from the dorms, then it's about a 10 minute ride to the nearest restaurants that go beyond typical student fare... And to get downtown or to the skytrain it's further again. Not unacceptably long, given how much more expensive downtown accommodation is, but something to keep in mind if you have meetings or commitments in the city.
I've stayed at a similar dorm room type place in Ryerson (Toronto), and this is the same deal at UBC. You get a private room with a bed, desk and closet. You share the showers, toilets and kitchen. This is a much better setup than a backpacker hostel where people all bunk in the same room, although not quite as nice as having a private bathroom like in a hotel. When the price is significantly less than even the most budget hotels in the Vancouver area, it's absolutely worth it, however. Clean, comfortable, quiet. Nice surroundings too - lots of trees. I'm jealous of the students that go here.

United KingdomUsing the laundry machine via laundry cards that require cash and a minimum top up which has to be added in a different building was somewhat clumsy.
Lovely location right next to the beach and a great spot to explore the UBC campus from. Bus connections to downtown are around 10 minutes away. The room was very spacious and washrooms were clean. While you can hear a lot of noise from the hallyway/neighboring rooms this did not bother us as there were few other guests.

Canadait was really cold in the night. that was partially my fault that I packed very lightly but I bought a thick sweater after first night and still had to ask for 2 extra blankets to have a comfortable sleep.
it’s in the beautiful campus of UBC. I loved walking around in the campus, trying cafes and seeing sports events of the students. the campus is right next to beach and nice trails where you can go for quick hikes.

CanadaFortunately, I had my car to drive to and from the city centre (downtown), but the hostel is quite the distance from the downtown. Plus, I don't always have a car to drive when I visit Vancouver, so for that reason, I will need to think twice before booking a stay at the UBC Campus hostel. It's at least 20 minutes from the downtown, and that's by car!
Away from the noise of Vancouver's downtown. Close to the most beautiful part of Vancouver. Lots of great walking and hiking trails. UBC campus is one of the most beautiful I've seen. The beach is nearby ( although it's quite the treck to get to that beach!).

ItalyStaff. They are maybe students, probably underpaid and without proper training, but some of them are terrible. They never answer emails (I was asking about luggage storage and whether there is a kitchenette). They sent out wrong directions for the check in. They had me go take out cash (15min away) and then go to a different building to get and charge the laundry card, only to find out later that they also give them out for free, and that there are signs at the hostel that say “recharge your laundry cards here”. If you try to call the reception number, they send you back to the campus’ booking system. In general they seem to be there just to hand out the keys, which is fine, but then say explicitly that the hostel doesn’t have a proper reception. There was a dirty towel left in the bathroom for days. The heating grid was full of old dust and worse. The microwave stank so badly it was impossible to use it. There are no vending machines in the building, in a campus where almost everything is closed on sundays. Maybe these are the standards the university uses towards undergrads who live in the accommodation in the winter: I hope not.

El SalvadorThe light of the room was way too yellow for my taste. Rooms are kind of small but if you're only staying for 1-3 days I guess it's alright, which was my case. Also, you can hear literally everything from the other rooms, even the noise coming from the bathroom which was far away from my room, I had some trouble during my sleep because of that.
The room was clean and had everything I need for my 2-day stay. The bed was comfortable enough and I had enough natural light and air flowing in the room. The staff is 24/7 which is great and they were always very friendly.

ItalyTowels changed only once a week (not hygienic...), dirty microwave, no dish soap, cold room. The door is hard to lock: instructions should be displayed in the room, for example on the door: I had to ask another resident. Very poor communication, I never had my emails answered.
The place is a dorm. It’s very cheap for Vancouver, you won’t find a single room this cheap anywhere else. It’s also very safe, and clean. The location is great, quiet and green (right on campus), even though it’s far away from the rest of the city.

El SalvadorThe shared bathroom was not the best and you can hear all the noises from the room next to you but other than that, everything was clean and nice. Also, the door of my room did not lock properly but I didn’t feel unsafe at any moment.
Great location right in the middle of UBC and next to wreck beach. The facilities are exactly what was described, small room but enough for my two nights.

CanadaIt was difficult to reach the reception as the wrong phone number was provided. The hostel was around a 15 min walk from the bus loop and was very challenging to find especially while carrying around luggage. The beds could be more comfortable.
The reception staff were friendly and helpful. The room was perfect for my short term stay. The bathroom and common room were clean. I requested a kettle for the kitchenette and it was brought in the next day. Lots of options for food nearby and located on a beautiful campus. The price was unbeatable and it was easy to book as well.

CanadaExtra pay for parking and so expensive. access to the downstair’s washroom which depends on which floor you stay. Level 1&3 designed as male washroom, level 2&4 is for female. I am living level 4, not very convenient to go each time.
The hostel is located in the UBC and is very convenient to access the wreck beach; the day rate is reasonable; bed is comfortable. Around the building is quite.

CanadaBetter information about the check-in location change prior to my arrival. A simple walking map from parking lot and transit loop to the check-in location would have been helpful. Many buildings are closed over summer so no way to ask for directions, especially when arriving late.
Wifi from the room was excellent. The building is older so it was as clean as possible given its age. The bed and linens were very clean, as was the lounge, shower/toilet and common areas. The room was comfortable with operable window, desk and chair, lamp, drawers, mirror, and closet space. The building does not have elevators. The reception staff were friendly, helpful and professional. I felt they listened to my concern about the lack of signage to the alternate check-in location.
